Congrats on getting the chance to visit the greatest city in the world! Where are you staying? Pittsburgh is a bit odd in terms of the traditional city in that there are various parts to the city and none of them are all that large, and they're all separated by one river or another. I can't say I'm overly versed in what to do with a two year old, but I'll give it my best...
The Pittsburgh airport is south of Pittsburgh about 10 miles, and it's right near the Robinson mall. If you feel like doing some shopping while you're in town, this is probably the best place to do it in terms of proximity. Just be aware that the airport is actually not that close to the city, so if you're staying near the airport, I'll near to give you a whole other list of recommendations.
If you're looking for the true Pittsburgh meal experience, check out Primanti Brothers. It's little more than a deli with a twist, but it's legendary around these parts. I hope you like fries and coleslaw on your sandwich... If you actually want a quality fine dining meal though, let me know and I'll ask around. Most of the fine dining places I know are outside the range of a simple cab ride.
There are several "inclines" around the city, basically single car trains going up a hill. They used to serve an actual purpose many years ago, but now they're basically tourist attractions. I think there are 3 in total, but I really can't remember.
The zoo is nice, I can't really remember what the aquarium is like since I haven't been there in forever.
Also, if I recall correctly you are a fan of beer, and if so, there isn't much better than Sharp Edge in Oakland. It's a restaurant in Oakland which has a tremendous variety of beer available. Not far from downtown at all.
Lastly, if you feel like taking a half hour hike north of the city, you can come to Dingbats, the restaurant I work at, and I'll make sure they take care of you. Doubtful, but I figured I'd put it out there.
I'd be happy to give you more suggestions if you have any idea what you'd like to do or if you tell me where you're staying.
Lastly, fuck Shamdonk. Thats all.
