Set, with worst possible river [1000$ 5H]

Postby Electrolux » Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:52 am

I rasie to 35 UTG. I start with 1200, and villain covers.

Villain is a donk with 64/14 stats. (Yes, at 5/10). He calls UTG+1. Rest folds
Villain is playing basically anthing, and plays it to the river oftentimes.

Flop [6h] [Ts] [Jh] (85)
I bet 75, he calls

Turn [Ac] (235)
I bet 165. He calls.

River [Qh] (565)

Hero?
Bet 2/3, fold to raise, Check call close to pot, Bet 1/3, fold to raise?

Sick.

Hard to say without knowing his aggression stats. Do you have enough hands to know his river aggression?

Not that it matters much, but which set do you have here?

Blah...I like a bigger turn bet if he has shown stationy tendencies. Then I puke on the river and block bet if he's reasonably passive. I like $225. You may get a crying call from JT, AT, AJ, etc and if he raises you know he hit a flush or has a K. Some may not even raise a K here.

If he's aggro then I'm not sure. I would probably check/call but I'm not sure that's good.

Thank God he's an idiot.

I honestly think your best bet is to bet like $110 against someone terrible like this.

Sorry. I have [Js] [Jc].

His aggression is flop: 1.2, turn 1.8, River 3.0. But only slightly over 100 hands.
I didn't know that at the time.
Isn't that weird to have increasingly higher aggression?
Indication of slowplaying, ot bluffing?

Donks hold big hands. Donks make natural draws and every draw hit. With a big two pair or any set, I like a large close out bet on fourth. However, I am in constant trouble with donks because you don't want to bet them out of most pots.

I'd make the soft lead, dont'-bluff-me-out-bet, only because he is a donk. One big reason I like no limit better than pot limit is when someone makes a don't-bluff-me-out-bet at no limit, you can bluff them out unless they are a cagey, deceptive, expert lobbing you a fake slow ball.

He shoudn't have been chasing you but it looks like he caught you.

His stats show he plays too many hands and raises less on the flop. I guess he makes fifth street bluffs which usually don't work as well as fourth street bluffs and he may not know that. He could be Helen Keller and still beat a set with this board.

Try to get a tell. Bark at him like a dog and say, "K Nine? K Nine?" That's what I put him on K,9.

I didn't know he had that aggression factor on the river.

I threw out a blocking bet of 110.
I thought it looked ridicously weak, but you thought it was the right size, Xas?
Woudln't you raise that with whatever holding took you to the river?

Anyways he only called, with [As] [Qd].

I like a check-call line.

Johnny, I think this is online, so you probably can't get physical tells of the kind you're suggesting.

Anyhow, I kind of figured that some kind of big A or other 2 pair was in his range. And maybe he's so passive that the betting line works. I just don't like betting into a board development that horrible for your hand. I'd prefer to call a bet rather than to make it here.

One rather significant tell for the check-call line, though, is his typical betting size on clear winners. If he has any sense at all (and surely he has to have some semblance of sense if he's playing 5/10--or else he's richer than anyone I know), he has to know you have a made hand rather than a draw. Then again, I don't see why you can't have KQ of any kind (no hearts) as well as AKs in hearts. The latter might be a bit rare, but it has to be in your range.
