Loose call or did he let me catch?

Postby briachek » Mon Jun 13, 2005 9:10 pm

Villian is slightly loose and I think he thinks he's better than he actually is.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.5 BB (8 handed)

MP2 ($50)
CO ($48.75)
Hero ($46.75)
SB ($45.25)
BB ($92.51)
UTG ($60.45)
UTG+1 ($36)
MP1 ($81.9)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Qc], [Jc].
4 folds, CO calls $0.50, Hero calls $0.50, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($2) [Kc], [5c], [4d] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, CO checks, Hero bets $2, SB raises to $5, BB folds, CO folds, Hero calls $3.

Turn: ($12) [Ad] (2 players)
SB bets $7, Hero calls $7.

River: ($26) [Th] (2 players)
SB bets $15, Hero raises to $34.25 (All-In), SB calls $17.75 (All-In).

Final Pot: $93

Results in white below:
SB has 5d 5h (three of a kind, fives).
Hero has Qc Jc (straight, ace high).
Outcome: Hero wins $93.

I guess this was a fine call if I knew he would pay me off for the full stack. I'm not the best with odds so was this a good callon the turn. I know I had 10 outs so I was about 25% to hit. So since my stack was about $40 and the pot was $12 on the turn, I should be willing to pay at most $13 to see the river? Help me out with this.

I think you only get his stack if the straight hits....he'll slow down big time if another club drops.

I actually would have played this more aggressively.

On the turn...that ace is a great scare card. I would raise $20-$30 and hope he folds...but know that i have a ton of outs on the river backing me up.

After looking at what he had..(a set)...the play doesn't look so good..but I like to be aggressive in these types of situations. If the opponent lays it down...then you win, no contest.

A hand like KQ or KJ would be hard pressed to call that raise.
