AK in SB

Postby slaz13 » Tue Jun 14, 2005 9:13 am

$25NL at Pokerroom, I have full stack, UTG+1has about $22.

My 2nd hand at the table I pick up AdKd in the SB. UTG+1 min raises to $0.5 CO calls, and I make it $2.50 to go, UTG+1 calls, CO folds.

Flop is Ah 7s 2s. I bet $5, UTG+1 raises to $10, I call. (Should I be folding here?)

Turn is 9c. I go all-in for $13 more, UTG+1 calls.

Results:

UTG+1 turns over Ac 7h, and takes down the pot.

I raised preflop to find out if he had AA of KK, as I feel either of these would have reraised here, if they just min-raised the first time.

So when the Ace hit on the flop I figured that there is a good chance that I was ahead. I thought he most likely had AK and we would split it, or AQ and I would take it down.

I think I would have a tough time laying down there but it is likely the wrong play. You came over the top with a good sized raise preflop and now he check raises you on the flop. And not only check raise but check min-raise which as you know indicates monster more often than not (though not always of course). It's tough to get away from but you know if you call you are putting your whole stack in and there are better situations for you to do that.
