BTP charity drive

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

Do we need to have money circulating via a BTP banker for this?

Why don't the individuals make specific pledges to their selected charities and confirm results (and payment) in the thread themselves?

I doubt anyone in the community is enough of a douchebag to pretend to give money to charity when they're not.

Also if you are a UK taxpayer and donate to a UK charity online - the Govt. top up your donation by 22% (or whatever the base rate of tax is at the time), so it makes more sense for me to pay direct that way.

The other point is that people are going to be happier to give more to their own favourite/national/local causes. The Rainbow Trust is a great local charity here in Manchester that provides care for dying children, but I wouldn't really expect loads of the BTP regs to give to it - they would prefer to give to their own local equivalents no doubt.

I think the last time I gave money through a poker site was for the Tsunami appeal and even then there were loads of posts on 2+2 etc. saying 'I'm not paying my $$ to folks abroad when we have plenty of poor folks here in the [insert country]".

Don't get me wrong - I think it's a great idea and good for motivating grinders.

On a similar theme:

I was reading the threads over at 2+2 about the guy who staked a $2 MTT player for an entry into the SM where he came second (the staker was a brit guy called Rupert and the $2MTT player was HojoMojo - the deal was 70/30 and HJMJ paid up the $96,000 to Rupert the next day - great story).

I was thinking that the regulars who are playing higher up could help out the micro-stakers by occasionally staking them in MTT's or to experience the next level up in cash games without 'scared money' being an issue for them.

Maybe we could sit down for a session once a week and say - 'I will use 25% of what I make this session to try to help out players at lower stakes on BTP'. That might also be good motivation to grind it out.

I think you have to want to do these sorts of things though - you don't want people doing it out of a sense of obligation but because of a positive desire to help.

I'll prolly join and use whatever day my winnings are supposed to come from as a day to pursue my culinary hobby/watch TV all day.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.
