Battle of the Blinds with 99

Postby Nashvegas » Fri Jun 17, 2005 11:15 pm

Hey guys. Let me know what you think of my play on this hand.

I'm fairly new to this table, and I'm at $50NL at Party. I'm in the big blind with 99. It folds to the small blind, who flat calls. I check.

Flop ($1.25) -- [Kc] [Kd] [4s]

SB bets $2.00, Hero raises to $6.00, SB calls.

Turn ($13.25) -- [2c]

SB checks, Hero checks

River ($13.25) -- [8h]

SB checks, Hero checks.

Results in white, at bottom.

My rationale -- on the flop there's no way he bets like that if he hit the king when I've shown no interest in the hand, so I figure I'm best and want to take it down there or charge him a premium to draw for overcards. On the turn and river I resolved to go into check/call mode, figuring a bet by me would only get called if I was behind at this point, but I might induce a bluff. Was considering whether or not I would fold to a A,Q,or J.

The guy had 77, I took the pot.

Wanna know what I think? I think Nashville sucks! nah Just kidding.

I think your play is pretty standard. The flop raise is good for the reasons you mentioned. I'm not sure about the turn check, b/c your hand isn't strong enough to call a pot sized river bet if an A, Q, J, or T hits the board. I mean you have to give him credit for drawing at something, unless you just know he had a small pocket pair. Bet 1/2 to 2/3 of the pot on the turn. After your check/check on the turn you should value bet the river for 1/2 pot or something too. He would have led with anything that beats you.

I agree... I would've bet the turn, if for no other reason than to charge him to draw... You're giving him infinite odds to chase there... Bet, and if he raises, you probably fold.. If he calls, I don't mind checking the river...

But, you checked the turn, and a seemingly harmless card hit the river, and he checked AGAIN... You gotta think you're good here... He's not gonna check w/ a King or a high PP...

Basically, I would bet out one or the other... Preferably the turn...

I would have raised preflop.
i lke the big raise on the flop I don't like his flat call
I would bet the turn and see how much he likes it
Check on river would be my play too.

Just a fast analyse on what I would have done
