Now I don't want to give him a free card on the turn if he only has a bare club. What do you do out of position? What do you do in position? Villian is a typical loose chaser but could be slowplaying.

You played it fine... You charged him the pot to chase his flush, he didn't hit, you were charging pot again on the turn, he didn't bite... You get a halfway decent pot on a scary board...
