Being bet into on the flop after having opened-what now?

Postby snok » Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:55 pm

Dear all,
Yesterday I had a terrible session. I got to realize that I didn’t know how to handle aggression on the flop and afterwards…

Couple of general situations that I’d love to get some suggestions on:
Assuming NO knowledge of the players involved but me.

1.
I open in MP after a limper in EP. Folded around, and EP calls.
EP comes out betting on the flop (pot sized) giving me 1:2 odds. How should I approach this situation?
I normally open in MP with about 100 different hands including 99/AQ/+some suits.
If he is a clone of me, he’ll call in EP with worse hands (including 22 and perhaps Axs) than those I raise with in MP.

Suggestions!

2.
Same as above, but here also with a caller on the button.
EP bets into me. How to approach this one?

3.
I open after 2+ limpers in LP. I get 3 callers.
The first one of these bets the pot, and gets a caller in MP.

(I open in LP with perhaps 200 different hands.)
How do I treat this situation?

Grateful for thots on these matters!

Snok... There's no real way to answer your question without specific cards... Eg... There's a difference if you're raising from MP w/ suited connectors, which I assume you are if you say you raise w/ 100 different hands (which I personally think it WAY too many), or Aces or Kings... I mean, if I raise w/ SC and don't hit, and get raised at, I'm done... If I raise w/ Aces and get bet at the pot on a non-threatening board, I reraise... I think it's a pretty bad play to call a raise in EP w/ Axs BTW... You'll hit a flush once every GREAT while, but most times, you just have TPWK or nothing... And, even the times you hit your flush, it's often hard to get action, as most people are afraid of a 3-flush board...

In your second scenario... it also depends on what you have, and what flops... Generally, unless I have something REALLY good, if I raise PF and get 3 callers (which sucks), and one of them bets the pot on the flop, and gets a caller, I gotta think TP isn't gonna hold up most times...

Try giving some specific scenarios, w/ cards, pot sizes, stack sizes, etc... it'll make it easier to give advice...

The General thinking - no specific hands

Hi again,
what I'm hoping to get educated on is in general terms.

Clearly, if there is a caller also behind me my situation is more dangerous than without. And that should influence my selection of proper strenght betting vs bluffing etc.

WIthout a stratey, I'm likely to have soo many pots just stolen off of me when I don't improve a lot on the flop.

Hey, an AK will only improve about 32% of the time
