Get a martin. My granddad bought one about 20 years ago for 2k and it's now listed for like 9k used... plus they just sound/play great. No idea on models though as I'm more a classical/electric guy, but you should probably just play a bunch and decide anyway.

I have a really nice seagull guitar that has a cutaway neck and pickups. It was around a grand, I like these better than martins for the value. Not quite as loud as a good martin but the tone is a bit better in the same price range.
