On a real bad streak. :(

Postby Stelvask » Fri Jun 24, 2005 6:06 pm

This is mostly a rant and a chance for me to vent a bit about this run. sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong place. and sorry about the format for the hands, i don't have the HH's right now.

So over the last few months i've been doing fairly well at the 2/4nl on stars (my computers having problems with party ice, i'm still working on fixing that).. i started this month up 3k in the first week, and was reallly happy about that.

since then, i've lost 3400, including my last 6 straight all ins. here's the hands for ya. some of these numbers might be a bit off, since this is all from memory. but blargh.

Hand 1:
AA otb. CO ($450+ - i have him covered)) raises to 16. i smooth call. SB reraises all in for 20 more. CO reraises to 100. i think about it and decide to flat push. he tanks and finally calls with 99. flop comes T99 and i'm gone.

Hand 2:
87o in the BB gets a free 4-way flop, which comes 69T, with two spades. i bet 12, UTG (short), makes it 32. button ($350ish, no reads) makes it $100. i push for $400. they both call. UTG has TT, button has 89ss and turns the flush.

Hand 3:
this hand was just a few hands later at a different table.
AQc otb at a 6-max table. i've been raising nonstop with a rush of uncalled cards and decide to just limp. . 4 way flop comes Q6x - two clubs. SB(LAGw/ ~$300) bets 16, i make it 36, he makes it 60. i call.
$120 in the pot. turns another Q. SB flat pushes for ~240. i tank and make a very iffy (at best) call, only to be shown 66.

Hand 4:
55 in LP. i open to 16, and the button smooth calls($400, relatively new, seems decent). flop comes Q92. i bet 24 and get called. turns a 5, i bet 60, he min raises, i push. he callls with 99.

Hand 5:
AQd in MP, i limp and see a 4 -way flop of 976 - two diamonds. checks to me and i bet 12. i get called by the player behind me (just short. no read on him). turns an 8d. i bet 28, he makes it 100. i smooth call. rivers the 6d. i bet 100, he pushes, i call and he shows me 77. (i put him on a lower turned flush btw)

And my latest one, as of 10 minutes ago.
Hand 6:
KK utg+1. i make it 16. a very good player (menexus, i think the best regular at 2/4 on stars) calls. flop comes KT6. he bets 20 into me. i raise to 60. he calls. I put him on a PP to call me preflop, with an outside chance at AK, so now i'm 95% sure he has TT or 66. turns an 8. he checks, i bet 100, he pushes. rivers a T and he drags with TT.

*sighs* There have been some other ones mixed in over the last few weeks, but a bunch of it is just becoming a blur. the last one just sent me off. After each time one of these hands has happened i've quit within the next few minutes, and aside from the first bad AQ call, i haven't been playing on tilt or without my A game. i've made a few minor mistakes throughout my play, but i think have just been getting a horrid run of bad luck.

I know in the end it's all gonna even out, but dear lord, can it get any worse right now? those were just the full/close to full stack loses. the other 1k comes from a variety of missed big draws (missed a flopped SF draw twice in big pots), minor mistakes, a smaller ugly pots.

reviewing my play in my head over the last few weeks, i can honestly say that i've made a few miistakes that have cost me a few hundred dollars, but beyond that... it's just a bad run that hasn't ended yet.

Anyways, that's all. if you made it this far, i award you 3 cookies.

This is hard to believe.

MG went down in flames. About 3 days later I hit my worst run in 2 years. Then KennyG took it up the...I mean he lost alot of money. Now you too?

WTF is going on?

If it makes you feel any better, my streak has turned around and Im back to my winning ways and Im sure you will be soon also.

Edit...Ive lost with AA to flopped sets 3 times in the past week. UGH! At least Im not getting rivered at record pace anymore.

i'm sure it's gonna turn around to.

My confidence is down right now. this is the worst run i've ever been on, and if it wasn't for the 3k i made in the first week, i might be ready to blow up.

The up note is that while my confidence is down, it's far from an all time low. i'm sure i'll be playing again tonight, as i'm already feeling fine. i just needed a place to vent (since i'm sure MG and martine are getting sick of me complaining to them nonstop). pokers poker. i'm sure i'll make it back. it'd just be easier to take if i could have some more winning sessions in there too.

I am having a horrendous June too... albeit on a smaller scale than you guys. I have lost about 1/5 of my bankroll. It is hard not to blame fate sometimes, but I did notice something... when I start losing I forget all about position. Its like I focus on the cards. I don't make good reads, and more importantly I make marginal plays out of position. I can't figure out why this is, but I have noticed that it happens.

So at least I have something to work on as I lose my money. I did do very well in a live game last night, so that has offset some of these losses. I played well and got good cards... which is something that hasn't happened to me much this month.

Don't worry. I like it when people complain to me about their bad beats. Makes me feel less guilty when I'm the one bitching. LOL.

And I'm sure you will turn around soon enough. You know what I did when I hit my bad streak...just kicked back for a while and grinded little by little. I've been running pretty well lately with the exception of a few times, and I'm sure the same will happen for you.

I can see that 1 & 6 are bad beats and 2 was always going to be a 3 way coin flip

Are you happy with your play in 3,4 & 5 or do you think you were tilting by then?
They all look a bit dubious to me..

3 looks bad as you say - he re-raised on the flop - which smells like a set rather than a draw to me..
4 looks like chip spewing once he has called your flop bet
and 5 is just losing your stack with the top flush on a paired board - I know you got a lot of money in when you had the nuts on the turn, but how much extra was your call on the end?

to answer your questions excession:

Hand 3: i had a few hundred hands with this guy. he was close to being a maniac, but the final thing that made my decision was that he had a loss rate of -15BB/100 hands. being that bad ii just found it so much harder.

hand 4: that's my normal play for late position i'm very aggressive, and follow up a preflop with a flop bet 95% of the time. raise PP's. normally i take it down on the flop there. in this case i turned the set. the player was normally really aggressive. if i hadn't pushed the turn, he would have pushed, or near pushed on the river. either way i don't think i can fold the set there.

hand 5: i always go with my read. on the turn i put him on a low flush, something like JTd/KJd. . i knew that with the last diamond a lower flush wasn't likely to bet, so i bet out 100. the all in was something like $100-$150 more. i didn't put him on a flopped set when he called my bet on that coordinated of a board.

In the end, i still say hand 3 is iffy at best. i don't think it's bad, if only because of how terrible my opponent was.
hand 4 i personally my only better option was to call the min raise and check call on the river. but that just feels weak.
hand 5: i could have reraised the turn. but my read was that he had a lower flush. i always go with my gut, this time it just happened to be wrong.

Don't feel bad, folks--the last week has been brutal to me on Stars too. Stupid plays being rewarded constantly or dominated plays being rewarded by 2-outers.

I think they need to release another new version :D

I think I was the first one crying for my streak. It started on June 1st. and lasted for more than 2 weeks. It started with an unusual amount of bad hands (9-11VP$IP from 18-20) and when I got my premium hands they always, and I mean always, got outdrawn. I cant remember how many times it was but after I started counting I lost 13 of 14 all ins and I was ahead in 12 of them.

Right now I am out of it. But the badbeats havent stopped. I win consistently in a session for three hours. I am playing NL25 and have $88 in front of me. I get KK, flop my K, and someone reraise me with A4 (he flopped two pair). I only call, the turn is a blank and he bets hard, I raise All in and he calls, he gets his A on the river.

A friend who happened to be at that table told me he had the other A. LOL. G0TTA LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!

Now, after the losing streak I am breaking even just because of this huge bad beats that seems to come only when I have a huge 3-4buyin stack and against another player who has me covered!

I am not a supersticious guy but The universe is conspiring against me!

The good thing about this is that I am not playing worse, I am only as bad as usual. :D I only remember tilting away 1buyin after yesterday´s posted bad beat.

Hey, man, it's just random... :)

I'm really not complaing that bad, as I'm up $400 for the week, but it's just been really slow and tedious, rarely catching the right hands at the right times and going through lots of phases of playing like 5 hands over a 3-hour period...
