Edit: I am pleasantly surprised to see so few arguing Stoneburgs point.

Stone: I understand what you're saying, and I think it's a very interesting and valid ( if somewhat purist) point of view that's been supported by a number of music artists over the years from Captain Beefheart ("Why should I have to charge for my music when where I got it, it was free?") to Radiohead etc.

I just wonder how many brilliant pieces of music we'd be without if musicians hadn't been paid for their work through sales - even great artists still have bills to pay - unless you have some other idea of remuneration in mind?

Personally I think the best solution is a compromise where people would be encouraged to d/l low quality (mp3) versions of music for free, but would still have to pay for the high quality versions (CD/vinyl).

At least Stoney is consistent. He is a socialist who is very close to being a communist in its pure form (not the crap Russia tried to impose). Not shocking after reading the thread where he talks about the political system he lives in. I am not judging him at all, simply making an observation that his views are consistent with the political environment he lives in.

As a Capitalist I find his take on this to be utterly foreign to me. But I think I see where he is coming from.

So so far, a list of people that never have nor would dl music/movies/porn/etc...
