Two Vegas hands

Postby Rhound50 » Sat Jun 25, 2005 2:43 am

I just got back from Vegas as couple of minutes ago, overall it was a fun trip. I will post a full report, WSOP events and all tommorrow. The poker results didnt turn out as well as I would have liked, I spend a lot of the drive home mulling over these two hands.

Hand 1 1/2 NL at the palms, $200 max, Villian 1 has $120 he is a calling station and a total fish, Villian 2 is a solid played $150. I get [7h] [8h] on the button. I raise to $15 after getting two limpers. 3 Callers, pot is now $62. Flop is [10c] [10h] [6h]. It checks to me, I like my two way draw and want to show stregnth so worst case they check to me on the turn and I can see a free card. I bet $40, Villian 1 check raises all in for another $65, Villian 2 calls. What now?

Results: I call, made my flush on the turn put Villian 2 all in who called instantly with 66, my buddy told me later he folded the [9h] so I was drawing dead on the flop?

Hand 2: 2/5 NL at the Rio. $500 max, Villian 1 strange player likes min raise UTG, pretty decent player pretty much ABC, he has $400, Villian 2 $500 decent player got his top trips cracked by a nasty two outter, and has been on tilt since. He just bought in for his 3rd buy in. I have [As] [9s] in the BB, Villian 1 raises to $10 utg, gets 4 callers, I am getting odds so I call. Flop is [Ac] [Ks] [Qs]. Top pair with the nut flush redraw. Villian 1 bets out $50, Villian 2 calls, I call also. I considered a raise but I was afraid of being up against AK or AQ and I didnt think he would possibly fold. Turn is the [Qh] and it checks around. River is the [Js]. I check, I still am not totaly sure where I stand and would be willing to take a free showdown here. Villian 1 checks, Villian 2 bets $300. I know I have him beat, I call, Villian 1 goes all in behind me for $50 more, Villian 2 calls. I now have to call, the pot is over $1200 and I only have to call $50.

Results: As I thought I have Villian 2 he had [5s] [4s]. Villian 1 has KQ for the boat. I went over the hand about 100 times in my head and here is what I came up with. First off I got really unlucky here both players misplay their hands. Villian 1 trying to check raise the river with one player left to act is a really bad play, Villian 2 is a moron for over betting the river that bad, nothing that he can beat calls his bet. I made a good read on him. I think I should have lead the river, as a blocking/ see where I was bet, that is the only possible way I dont get screwed here.

Any and all advice is appeciated.

Hand 1 seems fine. I am betting the river approximately 100% of the time on the river in hand 2. I might also lead the flop but I can't say for sure not knowing how you had been playing prior to this hand at the table.

Hand 1. I check the flop and take the free card. It's not fun to get checkraised. And the board is paired.
When you hit the flush its hard to get away.

Hand 2. I also like a blocking bet/ value bet on river. $100-150.
Many hands you beat will call the bet but not all these hands will bet if you check to them

Hand #1) I take the free card on the flop. Nobody is going to believe you have a T, but they very well could have one and then you have big problems. This is one flop that I wouldnt bet when I raise a suited connector.

Hand #2) I think you played it fine. A blocking bet isnt going to help much in this scenario. The guy with 45s may have raised all in anyway and you may have folded the best hand even if the other guy didnt have KQ.

After a final session at the Rio, it was a quite 4 hr drive home, the quote. I kept thinking of a quote I heard from a really good poker player. "Those who draw at straigths and flush's arrive in Limo's and leave in bus's." I guess I kind of felt that way a little after leaving Vegas in the red.

Ice in hand 1 I dont understand why I would check here, isnt the point of rasing suited connectors to play them like big pairs. In this case if I have AA or KK, I will bet this flop almost every time. I really think I should have just folded to the reraise.

I totally agree with the second part. I came to the exact conclusion. I really didnt think that my draw was dead, he had the only hand that had me drawing dead other than flopped quads, but with the board paired already, I dont know which flush/str8 cards are safe to hit and I had to much behind me to take that risk.
