Re-raising a mini-raiser with AK out of position.. bad move?

$20 Table on Prima.

I'm on the Big Blind, table is loose/passive as usual with only one or two exceptions. Villain here has ~$20 and I have him covered. He's fairly new to the table and I have no read on him.

I'm in the big blind with AKo. Everyone folds to Villain in MP who mini-raises, SB calls and I (hating mini-raises and reading about how Ice tends to re-raise them) re-raise it rather big to $3.20. Villain flat-calls (crap!) and SB folds.

Flop comes JT4 rainbow. Pot is $6.80, I bet $5 and he calls. Turn comes 9, pot is $16.80 I check and he checks behind. River is an Ace, I check, he bets $5.80 and I call.

He's not checking behind the turn if he's got AA,KK,or QQ... I would bet he's either got AK and you split, or at WORST AJ for 2pr... He could also have a weaker ace, and I would probably call the river...

Not sure if I would go with that PF raise so much... the BB is .20, right? He minraised to .40... you reraised 8x his raise...? That's pretty steep, especially for a hand that most likely has to improve to win...

I like the play...reraise is kinda big like the others said...but I think you played flop, turn, and river exactly how I would have. Which means I like your play. :)

Did he show you KQ??

He showed AQ actually. I agree that my re-raise preflop was too big, the problem was that I had a big stack which made it hard to use the slider accurately. (poor excuse huh?) I wanted to make a big re-raise, but that was definetely over the top. I think villain played it very bad/weird, calling with two overs and a gutshot on the flop against what he must think is AA/KK, then just checking behind with an OESD when I show weakness on the turn.

That's exactly why it's a bad idea to play AQ to a raise... Too many times you're gonna be dominated... A solution to your "slider problems", which I have myself sometimes, you can type the amount you want to bet... Makes it a little more exact...
