AQs and reraised

Postby iceman5 » Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:29 pm

$100 NL 6 max

I raise to $3.50 with [As][Qs] in EP. Button reraises me to $11. I call.

Pot $23. Flop [Jh][Ts][8d].

1) CRAI?
2) Check and call a bet hoping to hit the straight or maybe an ace?
3) Lead close to pot hoping he has AK and missed

What kind of player is the button? What's his range?

If his range is tight then fold preflop ... and check/fold or check/call the flop depending how much he bets.

If his range is wide and he always CBs then obviously CR.

I really hate your preflop call. Calling is fine if you're CO and he's button and you're willing to throw down on a lot of flops, but people do not screw around wth UTG and UTG+1 raisers.

Flop is an interesting spot. If you check, I imagine AK checks behind a lot if he's any good and that's the hand you're really hoping to CRAI. I really don't see him c/f this flop often as it hits your range about as hard as any flop can and isn't a good flop to stab at.

I can't remember the last time I c/c a draw but I think this is a spot to do it. If he checks behind lead any turn.
The better player should win the race. Always.

K3nt nailed it.

Since you called preflop you have very little choice but to CRAI since this is one of the better flops for your hand. If you don't think you can play this flop profitably then folding preflop is the play.

$29 PF.
Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

Obv by saying take no offense to this I mean take some, but after seeing many recent posts I either gave you and Trod way too much credit when I first came here or they must be putting something in the water in Texas because wow, I'm not sure how you guys do well with the analysis I've seen recently.

ah well, everybody messes up something from time to time. Especially when things don't run as supposed.
I think that makes one a human being.

@DoctorHandles i think you are right that there are more good players at FT and stars. A lot more. Different players need to be taken care of differently, no?

A hand as example from a diff. forum

22/20/2.7 after 75 hands

BB ($98.50)
UTG ($119.70)
MP ($91.95)
CO ($17.45)
Button ($118.40)
Hero ($242.30)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [9s], [Ah]:.
2 folds, CO calls $1, 1 fold, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($3) :[Jd]:, :[Th]:, :[8s]: (3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $4, CO folds, Hero calls $4.

Turn: ($11) :[Ac]: (2 players)
Hero checks, BB checks.

River: ($11) :[2d]: (2 players)
Hero bets $10, BB raises to $30, Hero ?

against a good player this is a call. Because hero's line looks so weak, he has never the goods to call there. No? Against a not so special player this is a fold... because it needs some thinking to realize hero is never holding 2 pairs here? (aside from that river should be check call and preflop a raise)
