well said T Rod...

and as a "believer" there is nothting that can possibly be said in this thread or any other document that can sway those beliefs...as interesting as some of the non believers arguements may be, that is as far is it goes ..at its best interesting, as its worst, careless..its an argument with no proof either way, just talk ..and I highly doubt that any non believer could ever sway a believer, a tragic circumstance might shake the belief but a person of strong faith does not waiver even under the worst of circumstances..

Re: arrogance

The atheist's argument IS derisory, although the derision is not necessarily at a personal level. There's no evidence supporting the existence of a god. And there's even less evidence suggesting which god is the right one. Yet people not only believe in god, but in once specific one who wants them to act in a specific way. Conclusion - belief in a given religion is illogical at best, stupid at worst.

How would you react to someone who always folded any hand containing the ace of spades because its an unlucky card? Illogical at best, stupid at worst?

If you find out he was taught this principle early in his childhood and cant shake it, you may be more sympathetic. You may be more understanding of why he does it, but your opinion of folding [As][Ah] will still be very negative. Thats roughly where most atheists stand.

PS, heres the way i look at this:

All the atheists cite the 'laws of nature' and 'common sense' as reasons why God cant and/or probly doesnt exist. The Bible says he does, but then, the Bibles just an unsubstantiated peice of literature which is most likely a fiction, right? Lacks evidentiary credibility, etc...Fact is thats wrong. If you study biblical prophesies you'll see that alot of things in there are so accurate that it's frightening. A few examples:

Reestablishment of Israel/Jews returning to Jerusalem: Okay, the Temple was destroyed in the year 70 i think. There wasnt a state of israel since then, and no one had any reason to beleive there ever would be again, given how Jews were treated by everyone else in the world. Its a miracle that happened, and to this day, no one can quite explain (historically/politically) how or why israel got reestablished...but it did, like the bible said.

Jerusalem as worlds most important religious site: Bible said it would be in Micah somewhere I beleive, and lo and behold it has.

Fall of Egypt and Fall of Babylon: In Ezekiel, the fall of Egypt and Babylon as world powers was predicted. I htink we can all agree this happened. Although OK ill give you that any prophesy predicting the fall of any great empire is likely to come true sooner or later, so ok. Still though, its just one of the many.

King of the east and his army of 200 Million: There were approximately between 12 and 20 people in the entire world when this prophesy was made. Now guess what? The kinf of the east has an army of 200 mil. Whod have thunk it?

Destruction of Niniveh and Tyre: Even bookish historians agree this particular prophesy was amazingly accurate, especially in its description of the fall of tyre (which i dont remember jack about of course)

There are a slew of others that I cant remember now (I read some peice some lawyer wrote attempting to prove the validity of christianity by the civil preponderance of the evidence standard...also read bible over the course of 5 or so years-- bible in bathroom, read it while brushing teeth and taking crap and taking baths FTW...got thru it after awihle...still have the thing, its in pretty bad shape)

--

So anyways the way i look at it is that from what i have read, the Bible has shown itself to transcend alleged 'natural law' (LOL, BTW, @ anyone who assumes that we really know all the natural laws...i bet 99% of people that say gods existence is a violation of natural laws havent spent a day in a physics class, and thus they dont know enough to realize that we don't know all the natural laws yet by a longshot...)-- thus i am inclined to read it charitably in the spots where it goes against things that we see/expect... I mean if something can tell the future, thats sorta 'against natural laws' i would say-- thus I beleive that the Bible has shown itself to be at least somewhat exempt from those criticisms, and has to be evaluated on its own merits, and/or by other means (not sure what those are exactly, but it certainly goes a bit further than "I havent met Jesus and blown him and sucked down his divine load with my own two lips, therefore he cant exist.")

Way too many people confuse christian 'science' with retarded mysticism type beleifs like 'oh yeah the sun rising/setting on the other side is when god spits it out his mouth, then it goes back into his anus at night and coems back out his mouth in the morning.' Yeah thats been refuted, but truth is, the big questions havent been answered yet...go ask a theoretical physicist if he really knows where the universe came from, or a neuroscientist if he really knows wherein consciousness lies...they dont. The people that think science has explained everythign already are the people that dont know very much science and have a very limited view of what 'everything' is.
