Atheism is the denial of the existence of Gods. I'm saying it's impossible for any human to know whether or not a God exists, therefore belief in a God is a con trick played by the Church on people and sometimes by people on themselves.

Marx was right - the opiate of the masses.

If A is bigger than B, and B is bigger than C, then A is bigger than C - we know that ;)

But, when it comes to empirical facts (aside from pure logic), no, we can't 'know' anything 100%.

The technical definition of knowledge still isn't agreed upon. But, for the most part, it's having a justified belief in something that is TRUE (plus some other property to avoid Gettier problems - basically, to avoid being 'lucky').

So, you can 'know' that God exists if you are justified in believing in him AND he really exists. Ironically, we don't have to 'know' that he exists in order to 'know' that he exists provided that you're justified AND he exists (even if we can't prove it)...lol@philosophy.

Trod,

I just want to know where the miracles went?? Why would God not perform them in the 21st century as well as in book that was written over a thousand years ago.

200 or so people ate cyanide in the jim jones cult and died. So the idea that 11 people back in the day died for a guy is not very valid proof IMO. Look at suicide bombers in radical islam. They kill themselves all the time for God.

Your point on the fact that the critics in the bible don't question his miracles would tend to make me believe they were "authored in" to help the masses believe.

Seriously my biggest problem is where have the miracles gone?

I still reject that 'walking on water' is physically impossible. Why can't there be a natural way to affect the properties of substances in order to 'walk on water'? Maybe you harness the electrical fields of the water molecules to allow you to walk on them...or you change your own reaction to gravity and make yourself 'light' enough to walk on water...what's so far fetched about the POSSIBILITY of such things? (Nearly) Everything is possible.
