KK vs suspected AA. Getting too fancy?

Postby Stoneburg » Wed Jun 29, 2005 2:17 pm

the largest contributor was the villain in this hand. He hasn barely played a hand since then and is still at $25, I have him covered.

stoga : Folds
DeejayTiger : Folds
Botaka : Folds
Fortius : Folds
micktoo : Folds
gurra_g : Calls for 0.20
pokerzp3 : Folds
Stoneburg : Raises for 1.20 [Kh] [Ks]
FahQue05 : Folds
Joansi : Raises for 2.00
gurra_g : Folds
Stoneburg : Calls for 1.00

This just stinks of AA. He's been waiting for an opportunity to get even and this mini-raise tells me he has found his opportunity. He's a pretty ABC player, a bit loose (vpip: 25) but has high raising standards (pfr: 3) so I am 95% sure he has AA here. I estimate 5% chance of QQ, AKs or just plain tilt. I haven't fully decided what to do after the flop but I am calling in order to draw at a set.

Flop $4.70 [7h] [Kd] [Jh]
------------------
Joansi : Checks
Stoneburg : Bets 2.00
Joansi : Calls for 2.00

Sweet Jesus! Amen and Halleluja! I have the [Kh] so he can't have the AK flush draw. If I know him right from the last pot, he will slowplay his Aces.

Turn $8.70 [5c]
------------------
Joansi : Checks
Stoneburg : Bets 5.00
Joansi : Raises for 10.00
Stoneburg : Raises for 45.00
Joansi : Went all-in 11.83

Am I getting to fancy with the underbets here? I really feel like I have total control of what's going on, but should I maybe just push the flop?

Here's one way to look at it.

If you're right and he has aces, he's not folding pretty much no matter what, so you're getting his money in that case. (Unless the board pairs, when he might freak out if you show strength, I suppose.)

If you're wrong and he has something less than aces, slowplaying gives him a chance to bluff at it, while pushing can fold him.

So I like the way you played it.
