Good spot for a squeeze? (100NL 6-max)

Postby stickdude » Sat Feb 09, 2008 2:33 am

Squeezing is something I do pretty much never. The original raiser is a bit on the loose/crazy side (he crai a 100BB stack in a 20BB pot earlier) and the cold caller is the same calling station from the other hand I posted -

5 players
Converted at

Stacks:
UTG ($109.85)
CO ($98.25)
Hero ($110.90)
SB ($62.20)
BB ($153.20)

Pre-flop: ($1.5, 5 players) Hero is BTN [6h][7h]
UTG raises to $3.5, CO calls $3.5, Hero ?????

If this is a good squeeze spot, what's a good-sized bet? I was thinking somewhere in the $13-$15 range.

If UTG is loose and CO is stationy then this is a terrible spot. You want to pick spots where they will both fold most of the time.

So, in this case you have an UTG opener, which means his range should be tighter than normal. If he is loose, his range may be wide, but he may call a wide range too, which is bad. If CO is stationy then he may call too.

On top of that, you have a hand that plays well multiway and have a chance to see a flop relatively cheaply against 2 villains that may give a lot of action if you flop a monster. I would rather see a flop here than squeeze.

If you were to squeeze, $15 is about right.
Villain: Why?
Villain: How?
Me: I had a feeling
Villian: Sit in you cretin

Yeah not a good spot against loose players, this is a great hand to see a flop with cheap on the button like triple B said.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

The better player should win the race. Always.

I did pop it to $15, and they both folded.

However, I've played poker long enough to know that winning the pot doesn't necessarily mean I played the hand correctly. Triple B's points about this being a good multiway hand are spot on - I'll definitely keep that in mind next time this situation comes up.
