Weak/Tight AK

Postby briachek » Wed Jul 06, 2005 1:18 am

With no read on the opponet or if the opponent is at least a semi solid player, is this flop fold correct or as weak/tight as it looks like in hindsight. I am only beating KK, JJ, AJ and AT but its hard for someone to play those hands like that. I am ahead of a draw but its a draw heavy board so I don't know what cards are safe and what aren't.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.5 BB (10 handed)

MP2 ($24.35)
Hero ($64.7)
CO ($60.5)
Button ($38.5)
SB ($32.25)
BB ($34.5)
UTG ($95.6)
UTG+1 ($112.1)
UTG+2 ($48.5)
MP1 ($72.8)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with [Kh], [Ah].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.50, 3 folds, Hero raises to $2, 3 folds, BB calls $1.50, UTG+1 calls $1.50.

Flop: ($6.25) [Ac], [Qh], [9c] (3 players)
BB bets $6, UTG+1 folds, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $12.25

Results in white below:
No showdown. BB wins $12.25.

I was getting a bad feeling about this situation. Comments on the fold?

If you're not comfortable with the situation I don't think folding is THAT bad. However, I wouldn't have. It's not common for the average player, probabaly the majority of players to lead out the pot from the BB with a strong hand, just because you would, doesn't mean they will. Without a specific read, I find it unlikely for the BB to have AQ or A9 and much more likely for them to have AJ, AT which they quickly recognized as vulnerable and wanted to take down the pot or say JT in clubs which most people would bet there I think. I would have made a standard raise here and proceeded from there most of the time.
