I usually check in these situations. You don't know what he has..and if he reraises you all-in...you're in for a tough decison.

You mentioned the read on him that he's too aggressive with weak hands, but how is his play otherwise? Is he a caling station? Does he slowplay sets?

This is a tough one because you're out of position. If you check, he's betting big and you have a tough decision. If you bet less than enough to put him all in, he's either pushing (he has anything, even a single Queen) or checking (he missed whatever he was drawing at, but what possible draws are out there?).

It's read-dependent. If you really think he's playing a queen, bet small or check and let him hand you his chips. If you don't have a strong read, your decision seems to be all-in or check and fold to his bet. Better to be the aggressor here.

Now thinking about it from a fishy point of view, he called you PF bet with AQ, KQ, QQ, 55, or 22 and he probably thinks you have AK. Of course your'e betting like crazy into him with your missed draw, so he's happy to keep calling. If you slow down on the river, he's ready to pounce.

If I think I'm capable of folding to a large river bet, I check. But I'm probably not capable of making that laydown, so I push in.

Did I just lose my stack?

I still prefer to bet. That flop is as safe as it gets, if you don't bet this one than what are you going to bet? Q5 in UTG+1, I don't think I'll worry about that, if he called your 6BB raise with that so be it. The hand I worry about is QQ, but if he didn't raise that to get your money in I'll be impressed.

Since you saw this player make outrageous moves in the past, I don't like to check to him and induce a bluff. I find it better to bet into them, take it to me a value/stopping bet.

I bet half the pot and call an all in.

Theres $161 in the pot. I have about $120 left. So if I bet, Im not folding to any raise.

When I first started playing I was like all players. I have AA or KK and just fire away at every street. Pound pound pound. Get it all in.

But as I moved up stakes, there were more people calling raises with small pair, suited connectors and other hands for the sole purpose of busting big pairs. I soon learned that if you cant lay down an overpair, you are in trouble. I have a few people that I play all the time that absolutely cant lay down an overpair and against them I call raises with hands I normally wouldnt and if dont hit the flop, Im gone.

So after learning all of this, I sometimes feel like Im too careful when I should be pounding away. This, and betting the river in general, are my 2 leaks that need work. The rest of my game is pretty damned good if i do say so myself. Its not perfect, but I dont think there are any other big leaks.

Anyway, I checked the river and he checked behind with KQ. I should bet at least the same amount that I bet at the turn which was $45 and I probably shouldve bet closer to $80. If I push all in (which is about 3/4 pot), I doubt he would call. He cant still think I have AK or JJ if I push it all in, because thats all he can beat given the action up to that point.

River betting is one of my probelms as well.... amazing we are so alike in that reguard.

I check-call here, I think. You're probably ahead imo, but you get paid off better if he has the opportunity to bluff at it. Basically, on a lot of these river situations, I think just letting them bet it gives you the opportunity to get their money when you're ahead. If you put more out there, I think he's likely to fold when behind but bet when ahead.
