outrage

Postby Felonius_Monk » Thu Jul 07, 2005 4:18 am

Early this morning, at rush hour, bomb blasts have occurred all over the UK's capital, London, killing and injuring hundreds. The attacks have clearly been timed to cause the most casualties among innocent civilians by being times when underground stations and buses have been packed with people on their way to work. It also seems that they've been timed to cause disruption to current world events - Britain is currently hosting the G8 summit, where Third World debt and aid relief is high on the agenda, and only yesterday won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. The country has been on a high for a week or so and has now been brought crashing down by these atrocities.

I can only say that I'm disgusted yet again by the targetting of innocent civilians by the people who perpetrate these outrages for no reason but misguided bravado and machismo and their own misplaced and evil personal and political agendas. Attacks like this have nothing to do with religion, and nothing to do with righteousnous.

We now find ourselves in an atmosphere of great sorrow and anger. I was scheduled to be going down to London by train today, which isn't going to be happening now. But all I can say is that, like New York before, all this sort of atrocity is going to achieve is to make people in this country even less sympathetic towards terrorism and even more determined to ensure that the people who perpetrate these attacks are not allowed to achieve their aims.

Condolences to any of the London-based players today who know anyone who has been affected by these incidents.

I want to extend my deepest message of sympathy to all our board members from the UK after this morning's terrorist attacks. I hope they and their loved ones are all safe.

This terrible act of killing and injuring innocent civilians is just another reminder that there are forces out there whose main goal is simply chaos and violence. No political goal here. No religious justification. Just random killing of innocents to make small people feel important.

Of course these types of people will never win as long as we are vigilant. I can think of no people more prepared and historically tested for vigilance than the Brits. I guess the terrorists never read about the Battle of Britain in WWII.

God bless the Brits.

Tim

Well I am glad to hear from Rich and Monk and hear you guys are ok, it is a very sad day not only in the UK and the US but for the world. To attack people going about their daily lives just as in 9/11 is just cowardace. Attacking a miltatry base is one thing but attacking a people going about their everyday lives is just so wrong on so many levels. It is heartbrekaing to see what human beings are willing to do to other humans beings, that they dont even know. As everyone else is I'm outraged and sadened by these dispicable acts.

As another sad, side note I heard conflicting reports, CNN said a faction of Al-quida had claimed credit and then I head on the local news a press conference with the police in London saying no one had taken responsibilty for it. I dont want to turn this into a politcal debate but I really hope it turns out to be some local wacos and not another middle eastern terror group. The last thing the US or UK or the world needs is a war on another front, more civilians dying. As I said I dont want this to turn into a Iraq debate, but IMHO war of anykind is a neccisarry evil sometimes, but should be avoided unless absolutly neccissary. Hopefully like a said a bunch of local wacos that can be brought to justice ASAP and not spread to any other courties.
