I almost find it ironic, these terror groups really dont understand the rest of the world. They are angry with the western world for getting their noses in countires that they will say are none of our business, thats fine thats their opionion and being brought up as an American, I can respect someone else's opionion, even if its something I dont personally agree with. But these cowardly terror campaings, are a self fullfulling profecy for them. When Al-Quida attacks the US and kills 3000+ people in NY and DC, what do they expect to happen. The US is going to get scared and hide. Hell no, we do exactly what they hate us for, we send troops into Afgahanstan to hunt the people that are resonsible for killing americans. If these people want to be left alone, crashing planes and bombing civilians isn't going to allow them to be left alone, it is going to cause The US, UK and our allies to defend ourselves. Unfortunatly right now it is just a circle of violence and killing, and as we are going right now I dont see and end in sight, hopefully I'm wrong, I have been known to be a bit of a pessimist.

The recent terrorist attacks made me go back and thumb through a copy of the 9/11 Commission Report (surprisingly one of the best political books I've read and certainly the best government book).

In the chapter concerning Bin Laden's background and ideology, the commission describes his believe in Qutb Islam which is pretty much: 1) The world and Islam are are underseige by licentiousness and general unholiness, 2) It is the believers' duty to fight this on all fronts, and 3) there is no living in between. The licentious ones (read Americans, Brits, Israelis, etc.) must convert and change their ways or die.

Pretty extreme, and it reminds me of another extreme: fascism. Fascism is essentially rights for only the few. Thats exactly what the terrorists believe. Rights for only their ultra specific conservative sect of Islam. No wonder they have no trouble killing innocent people. They are Islamo-fascists.
