Dual monitors

Postby Molina » Thu Dec 23, 2004 8:20 pm

I'm interested in being able to run 2 monitors, if anyone here has this setup or knows about, what graphics card would you recommend/do you use?

I have a 128mb Nvidia one, can't remember the exact model sadly and I'm away from that computer at the moment.

Thanks for any help in advance, I won't be back on this site for a few days, so y'all have a good holiday,

Well, you need two monitor outputs from your video card, so you need to check the back of your computer.

If you don't have two, you need to buy a new video card and install it.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

I have dual moniters on my computer. I spend a lot of time writing code, so it is very usefull. It is also really nice to be able to watch a movie on one monitor and play poker on the other.

Like Tetsuo said you need a video card that has 2 video outputs, I have a ratheon 9600.

Dual monitor

The cheapest way to go is with a PCI video card and your existing card.
If you have Windows 98 or newer, the operating system has built in support for 2 monitors.
Tetsuo has recommended a more expensive approach, but it has more potential.

With just a PCI card, your maxixmum resolution may be too small to allow settings you might desire. With a newer more powerful AGP card, like your 128MD nVidia or better, you should be able to have 2 monitors running 1600x1200 at 32bit. That is 8 tables at once!
Look for "dual RAMDACs @350mhz" or faster. You do not have to know what that means to look for it in the specification sheet, but this is the component of the card that takes the Digital signal(picture) and Converts it to Analog that goes to your monitor.

A friend of mine has 3 monitors, an AGP card and a Matrox dual head PCI card.
He runs all his monitors at 800x600 and leans back in his easy chair to play 6 tables at once with a wireless mouse/keyboard.

If you could look up your card, I could tell you if that model supports 2 monitor setups.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
