NL question with AQ

Postby bobby » Mon Jul 11, 2005 9:59 pm

UB 50 NL usual game at UB---semi tough game with one calling station, but no other reads...villain ( he is not the CS) and I both have about 65

EP limper---MP limper----I make it 3.00 to go from the CO with AQ suited

Blinds and EP limper fold, and MP calls...Pot is 7.25

flop is A 4 8 rainbow---he checks--- I bet 6.00---MP calls...Pot is 19.25

turn is another A---he checks-- I bet 15, villain calls

river is a rag---he goes all in---------

what do I do here??

Thanks

A call is stronger then a raise? I think you're beat.

AK, two pair, or a set. Small possibilty of AJ.

I check behind him on the turn. If he doesnt have an ace (or a set) he will not call your turn bet. There are no draws for him to be chasing.

If you check the turn, he will think you dont have an ace and he will bet the river for you (where he wouldve folded a non ace non set hand if you had bet). You get more money out him that way when he doesnt have an ace or set and you lose less when he does. You have to call the river when you do this though.

Since he called the turn bet you need to fold this river unless he's a very bad player. He should have a boat here most of the time since it is more likely that he limp/called with a small pair than an Ace with a weaker kicker than you (which he didn't hit). 44 or 88 seem most reasonable, maybe AK, or possibly A8/A4 if he's a bad player. My guess is 44/88 though.

Do you really think he pushes all in with any A?

If this is a tight player I can't imagine him calling your raise with any hand that you could beat here, mainly AJ or AT.

I think iceman's analysis and suggestion is dead on. When he just calls your flop bet you have to be wary. There are no draws!

On the river the pot is $50.. you have $40 and his bet is ~$40. Ehh.. it's close, but I would fold.

ugh..AQ is the bane of existence sometimes.

Just remember that two calls (especially on a board that isn't very cooridanted) is showing more strentgh then a raise. He doesn't need to protect his hand because it is so strong.

You almost know the result by the post title - any time "AQ" is there - the correct answer is invariably fold.
