Laying Down KK

Postby BigPhish » Fri Jul 22, 2005 5:17 pm

I hate folding KK and QQ after making a big PF raise. But then I know the PF raise is supposed to drive people out unless they have PP or a good Ace, or they're completely retarded. I only had a few hands with my villain when this one came up, so PT stats are weak. Read from the few hands I saw was he was a decent player.

Party NL $25

BP has $62.25
Villain has $16

BP in BB with [Kd][Ks]
UTG calls 0.25, UTG +1 calls, Villain calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB folds, BP raises to 2.00, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, Villain calls, MP3 folds, CO calls, Button folds.

Flop ($8.85) [3d][As][4s]

BP (Rats, an Ace.) checks, MP1 checks, Villain bets 3.00, CO calls, BP calls(I seriously considered folding here...), MP1 folds.

Turn ($17.85) [8h]

BP checks, Villain pushes in for 10.75, CO folds, BP folds.

Check-call? That's disgusting. That gives you no information. If you hate your hand, check-fold. Otherwise, bet out (3-5 bucks look about right) and fold to a raise. If you get callers, check-fold your unimproved hand on the turn (people love their aces in family pots). Anyways, you'd be surprised how many pots I've picked up with my small continuation bets in the $50 and $100 games with hands like QQ and KK on overcard flops.

Continuation bets are great and heads up I would bet into that flop also, but there are 3 callers here. Odds that one or more of them has an ace are very high. Not only that but someone else already called the villians flop bet. It would be hard to believe at least one of them doesnt have an ace. You got outflopped...move on.

Check fold is definetely the way to go unless you are heads up or against two callers. Even with two callers I dont like much the continuation bet, because with one caller the hand is over, but if you have position you wll have the river for free almost for sure and maybe you hit your two outer...otherwise you are beat for sure.
