First Live Game.

Postby BadBeatMan » Fri Jul 22, 2005 9:57 pm

Guys-
I have been playing online and turning a good profit now for quite sometime.

A guy i know who runs a sportsbook and also works at the same golf club where I am a pro is opening up a poker room.

I like online because I can do other things (listen to music, have the TV in the bkrnd. etc..)
I know live is going to be different. I doubt these guys are fishy at all but I know tight ABC poker will win me some money. I'm a pretty young guy at 21 and I know I am going to be treated like a goat. Anyone have any advice on playing these live games? Once again it's not a casino it's a card room, for card players.

Thanks

Just be one of the dudes who likes to play cards....BUT......be one of the guys who plays cards better then the other guys. Don't give lessons to anybody, don't get physically upset when you get sucked out on and have a good time. If everybody is cool then you may of found a good place to hand out, drink beer and win money. Thats about all I would have to say. Ohh and you got it, just play tight ABC poker until you figure who plays like what, then your set. Good Luck.

If you are not used to playing live some things to keep in mind.

If they hire a dealer, tip the dealer, just a buck per pot. Pay attention to the action and post your blinds, if you sit in the hard spot for the dealer to reach, announce button moves and move it for them. If playing NL practice counting stacks and cash on the table, If playing either no limit or limit practice keeping track of the pot size, I found that it is easier playing no limit.

Play smart and have fun.

Yeah, it would be great if they had a house rule book.

Since chances are they probably won't, you should be ready for some really horrible rules.

Every live game I've been to outside of casinos has had variations on rules, some really horrible.
