Pats fan. (A fan when they were 1-15, too, so bite me.)
Until they are knocked out of the playoffs, they are still the World Champions and the best team in the NFL. They'll win the East, easily, and if they have home field throughout, will be back in the Super Bowl. I expect a rematch and the same results.
They are going to miss Charlie Weiss more than Romeo Crennel. Eric Mangini will be an NFL head coach in five years. The offense is very veteran and should maintain the scheme. Until he proves otherwise, I think Belichek will be fine calling the plays. (He doesn't appear to be so ego-driven that if he didn't think he could do a good job, he'd still do it.) This will be the year that Belichek proveshe is the best ever. <not said as a fan, but he's won me over. Until now, I've considered Tom Landry to be the best ever, because of his genius at BOTH offense and defense.>
They will miss Tedy in the middle, but not as much as people think. This is a damn good defense, still.
Who's going to beat them?
Steelers--coach hasn't shown he can win the big one.
Jets--bad coaching
Colts--bad defense, too many "stars" with no supporting cast
The Field--no one I see who can catch the also-rans. Too many teams had way above avg years last year, including Pittsburg and San Diego. Expect them to fall back.
New England is the gold standard of the NFL, well ahead of all the rest. They also have a mystique going for them. Until someone comes along and soundly beats them, the other teams will continue to believe the Pats will find a way to win. Eventually, all things come to an end and the Patriots run will end, too. Just not this year.
It's good to be the King.
