Hey chuck, welcome to the forum. You bring up some good points here with poker and where it is going. I have thought of the same things myself. What you said is one of the reasons I wont even consider moving to Vegas and going pro. The boom in poker has created a huge spike in the number of people that make a living playing poker. I do think that poker will continue to be mainstream for a while and I think that it will continue to grow for a while longer. I have spent most of my summer playing in Vegas where the games are great and very fishy. Each table has at least one person who has no idea what the hell they are doing, they watched the WSOP or WPT and wanted to try it out. Hell they are in Vegas anyways why not buy in for $500 and if you lose it so what, you would have lost it faster playing craps or roulette. This is great but it also attracks a lot of pros and semipros, who play the game well. What would worry me if I was a Vegas pro is what is going to happen when poker is no longer the popular thing. When John Q from Nebraska doesnt see poker on TV anymore and outta sight outta mind. All of a sudden there are many fewer ATM's giving money away at the tables and a lot of tables with a lineup of people that can play.

BTW, here is a great article about "going pro" on 2+2.

I'm not saying that I agree with all of it, but it at least provides some food for thought:
