Question for the ICEMAN

Postby WildBillHickok » Fri Aug 12, 2005 10:51 am

...i was playing in a live NL game in the South last week...a bunch of good ole boys and one i didn't know....turned out he was an LEO... i had to go into my wallet for more cash once, and he saw my CCW license...i could not figure out his reaction on his face, and he made a sarcastic comment...i shrugged it off...question:
When you see a private citizen w/ a CCW, what is your reaction and thoughts? Respect? Suspicion? What? thx

I assume thats a concealed weapon license?

Believe it or not, I dont know anyone who has one, and Ive never run into to anyone who had one. Personally I dont have a real problem with it. When the law was first enacted, I was still in patrol. Alot of guys were worried that everyone would have a gun.

All the guys I was worried about already had guns.

Im sure there are more, but I only know of one person in the DFW area who had a permit, that shot someone. It was a road rage incident and a guy was leaning into this guys window punching him and he shot the guy. I believe he got indicted but I dont know what happened at the trial.

I think most people who go to the trouble to get a permit are for the most part more likely to know how to handle a gun. There are plenty of people that have no training at all carrying guns illegally. Those are the ones that worry me. Im talking about law abiding citizens.

The criminals dont worry me as much because I assume they have guns and act accordingly.

No offense but shouldn't this be in 'Anything Goes'?

FWIW, I have a Concealed Handgun License ( so Ice you know one guy). I don't plan on getting into any gun battles. I just want an "out" to leave an unpleasant situation.

One time, some idiot hit me when I was stopped at a red light. The police came and by TX law you have to give them you CHL w/ your DL. I did and both officers said they were glad that I had it and offered some praise. Not sure why, but they seemed "supportive" in some way.

Wildbill, if you ever travel abroad (esp Europe), you HAVE to show them your license. They (especially Brits) will be amazed.

Brits---I guess because gun ownership is banned there? The ones I showed it too thought me some crazy Texas cowboy who walked around fully armed like in some western. Good if you want to build an image in say the local pub. 8-)

We'd be better off if everyone DID walk around fully armed.

From the UK:

Technically guns aren't illegal in the UK, only handguns, therefore carrying guns would be a bit tricky smuggling a rifle or shotgun in your pants. However it is legal, once possessing a firearms certificate to own a godawful muzzle loading pistol which are surely the lowest form of gun possible.

In the UK handguns were banned after a psycho went and shot up a Scottish primary school (4-11year olds) in 1996. I first started target shooting at 15 and have carried on since, though was too young to own someting sweet like a Para Ordnance 16.45 or a Sig, though was able to get some use of some nice handguns before the ban. Since then I've owned a few rifles, semi and full autos not allowed, so I've got a Marlin .357 lever action and a Tikka .243.

I don't begrudge the loss of handguns, I think that people from other countries watching the US can see that such a massive amount of guns in one country can get out of hand, the argument that only the illegal gun owners are the problem doesn't really hold when so many high school shootings occur and the ease with which legal guns can pass onto the black market, if only from the amount of guns kept in bedroom dressers.

Obviously being a gun owner I'm not slagging off all gun owners in one go, just that generally, the more guns in one country, the more violence there will be. As much as I have enjoyed handguns in the past, do more guns in the world mean it is automatically safer and better?

And, on another issue, regarding the Beretta 92F as your armies sidearm, hellfire, having shot a new one and a former army issue, it's a good job you have such bombing capability and the M16 as the Beretta is useless accuracy-wise!

Definetely the world would be a better place if everyone holds a gun  . I just would love if Mr. Bush agreed with me and stop the war and the intention of war against other countries who think like the vast majority of the US citizens: If everyone has guns, there would be no advantage between each other and the world might be a better place.

The one who dont agree look up for COLD WAR and the THIRTEEN DAYS CRISIS (Cuba).

This should definetely be on another forum  .

...perhaps this SHOULD be on another forum..but then maybe not... it is because America is mostly free that we all here can enjoy playing poker online and live. We have been mostly free, because we have power; we have power because we have gns.
The Germans confiscated gns and thus Hitler took power...he couldn't have done this without having a gnless society. The Nazis didn't attack Switzerland...know why? They have the most guns per capita of anyone in the world...and that's true toDAY. Every MAN in Switzerland owns a battle rifle and is well trained to use it...On holidays toDAY they parade around on the open streets with their battle rifles...it's normal there...and everyone in their country feels safe...they, toDAY, have one of the LOWEST crime rates of any country in the WORLD.
Vermont here in the USA, has law that says citizens can carry concealed withOUT a permit...VERMONT has one of the LOWEST crime states in our country...Washington, DC (and all the other states and cities, especially NYC) has the strictest gn laws in the USA...they also have one of the very highest crime rates here. States which have brought in the Concealed Carry permits, have had their crime markedly go DOWN. It's happened in every state where that's occurred. California is very restrictive...they have gangs running rampid.
A law was passed that one can't have a firearm within 1000 feet of a public school. The ner do wells, thugs and doped up on Ridilin kids, know this...thus the school attacks. School shootings are a sad and tragic thing. Back in the 50's and 60's it was nothing for young 16, 17, 18 year old boys to bring a gn to school in their pickup trucks... virtually NO school shootings back then... Israel had this same law, no teachers or airline pilots could carry gns...they were having the shootings too...several years ago, Israel passed laws sayling teachers and airline pilots could carry, and they did...school shootings and hijacks have plummeted.
Go to a gnshow...you'll meet some of the most polite people around.
Blaming shootings on gns, is like blaming 'mispelled' words on your pencil.
I could go on and on...
Though i'm glad to have the great country of England on our side these days.

Theres another reason that Switzerland is so safe, but I cant say it in an open public forum. Use your imaginations.
