mentor? poker school???

Postby gnarus » Wed Aug 10, 2005 10:58 am

Hi all, I was wondering if there was anyone that knows of a worthile good poker school/class or an established player that would be willing to take me under their wing & teach me some things. I want to become a singles tournament specialist. Currently I am a marginally winning player, ITM 38% with a ROI of 10% over 250 tournies (since ive been keeping track) I mostly play 10, 20, & 30's singles and have similar winning ratios($30.00 tables are actually my best ROI)

I feel I am close. My 4th place finishes are killing me and I cant seem to get over that hump. I've invested in poker tracker. I am close to 20% 4th place finishes! This is horrible I know. Ive read everthing on this site and tried everything suggested but it does not seem to be helping much. Ive read countless books & articles too!

I dont mind paying an established player either a flat fee(to be negotiated) or percentage of future earnings for a set period of time(preferred) to analize my game and/or teach me what is going wrong. Of course if I ever make it big & become a professional player I wouldnt forget who got me started! Send me a private message if interested. Also if you know of a worthile poker class let me know that too.

Thnx

Kev

20% 4th place finishes is quite a large number. I am absolutely positive that you could reduce that number by being much more conservative (i.e. playing fewer hands, almost never playing against a raiser) when there are exactly 4 left. You will survive and reach the money much more often.

I don't know of any "poker school" that I would recommend. I suggest that you continue to pursue your options as it comes to free advice.

nsxt2, one of the top online players in SnGs, has an online "school" at . i think that it is probably exactly what you are looking for. they have something like 70 videos (the sample looked interesting), and they release more each month.

the cost seems high, but could be worth it if you can really absorb what they say: $130 plus $15 per month.

Has anyone tried this? Comments?

Hi,

I am no teacher, not a pro ( semi ) or mister know it all.

I looked at some stngs which my brother played and gave him some tips on what I would have done, he had a simular problem.
I am willing to look at some of your stngs and give you my view on some hands.
Just send me 3 or 4 hand histories where you have finished OTM.

Sorry I don't know if it's any good. I know alot of people go to this one though. I played a couple people with hats of that site on their heat, at the wsop this year if that means anything.

I played at PokerSchoolOnline.com for about 2 1/2 years and it was money WELL SPENT.

The thing is though, I started my online poker playing there before I ever ventured into real online money sites. Once I started playing for real money online I found myself playing less and less on PSO and finally closed my account. They have mentor programs in the school that you can sign up for for an additinal fee. If anything you can try it out for thrity days and see what you think.

Good Luck,
Dave
