how do you handle hyper loose tables ?

Postby OzJax » Sat Sep 03, 2005 10:26 am

I have started to play at bodog $10+1 and the players are incredibly loose, the standard seems to be 5 or 6 ppl to see the flop, I am just lost and I cant find a way to play thoose guys.

If I play tight and only come with premium hands even if I have a pp or flop top pair there is so many ppl that even betting hard on the flop, a couple will remain and end up with a better hand or I'll get put all-in which I dont really want to get into with TP only. (in fact @ early stages I just avoid all-ins unless I have the nuts) Over there the straight is almost the average winning hand !!!

I dont really feel like playing like them doing coin flips and bluffs with my entire stack from the early stages but if I dont, when the blinds are higher and half the players are gone I have to fight with guys that have 3x my stack.

The only way I can play those guys is to get monsters and pray, of course that is pretty rare and not viable.

There is so many ppl seeing the flop (raised or unraised) that the pots get quite large then you put a pot sized bet lets say with TPTK or 2 pairs (which will seriously cripple your stack) after 1 or 2 callers they have pot odds to call it with almost anything and mayhem is back, before you know it you are pot commit and it is fold or all-in.

Any suggestions on how to play?

Cheers

You can't possibly complain when someone calls your preflop allin with TT. 4 out of 5 times you will double up and bust him and if it wasn't for the 5:th time he wouldn't do it (and only Phil Hellmuth would play poker!). The scenarios you describe sound like the most profitable imaginable, just push your good hands. Of course you will be sucked out on but most of the time you'll win a huge pot and be in great shape to win the whole thing. Would you prefer people playing GOOD poker against you? Would you have prefered he FOLD that TT to your allin raise preflop?

Bigger preflop raises and more multiway hands...thats how you handle those tables. at least in the early going.

Thanks for the advice guys, reading here it really seems simple, in reality what happens is that top 5 or 10 hands dont hold up very often against that many players but when they do the returns are very good. Effectively you just need luck to double up and then reasonable play gets you into the money and something close to "normal" play happens.
I prefer to play the coin flips a bit later in the game, on the hyper loose tables the variance (at least for me ) seems to be big. I'll stick to more predictable poker.

I don't play too many sit and gos but when I do I love these kind of tables. I like to sit back and let the monkeys knock themselves out. This might mean you get down to four and one guy has a huge stack but often he is one of the monkeys so he can be dealt with.

I think the key has to be as the others have said, play hard and fast with your best hands and also if the table is passive enough, play your good drawing hands in position. Normally playing hard might not maximise your return as you want these hands to make something but the monkey element elminates that. You'll get paid off when they don't suck you down.

Key is patience. I have played some of these where I have folded for the first two levels but eventually come good. If you are getting your money when you are fav too don't fret if you do get sucked out, that is poker and you decisions mean most of the time you will be looking sweet. Tough to deal with after three suck outs in a row I know but make it your mantra!
