I'm also not a big fan of the stereotyping being done about people like me... just because we have tattoos and piercings mean we do drugs now? When did this happen? Although I can sort of understand how rap can be related to that sort of thing, not because I think it's flat out intolerable "music", but because it's in the MAINSTREAM where they are talking about getting high and smacking their hos. What makes it different from your southern, 'underground' country is the fact that it's NOT on the radio, it's NOT on MTV and VH1, it's just little bands that will never get big.
I just can't understand how us rockers are being connected with drugs and things like that. 9 out of 10 metal bands have extremely positive, if not uplifting lyrics, ESPECIALLY in the main stream. Read the lyrics on bands like Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Hell Within, Nightwish, and Shai Hulud, all of which are fairly mainstream (CD's that have gone at least gold) and tell me where you see drugs. They're nowhere in sight!
And unintelligent? You've gotta be kidding me. Who do you think is most likely to be able to have an intelligent conversation with you, assuming you talk to all of them: A lghetto rap kid, a preppy girl, a nerd, or a metal guitarist?
The answer is the metal guitar kid. Why? Well for one thing, we pay attention to things outside of our own little world. Also, it's an undeniable fact that next to classical music, metal is the most intracite form of music out there right now. Now maybe you're thinking about that slipknot song you heard on the radio and think I'm full of it, but if you dig a little deeper than that garbage, you'll see what I mean. How could someone who can truly appreciate something as intricate as that be a moron? They can't. People with a true understand of the compexities of music are naturally gifted in maths and sciences, and that's a fact.
I'm not trying to sound like a jerk here, but it just annoys me when someone says that people in my culture are moronic, drug addicts. It's simply untrue, and the only reason people think that is because of how we are portrayed on tv, and in movies.
As a poker player, I think you can probably respect why I hate being lumped in with something I am not - just as poker players are lumped in with gamblers.
Partake in my bollocks, bloody chav!
