capped pre-flop and you hit quads... turn play

Postby EscapePlan9 » Tue Sep 06, 2005 1:15 am

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Qc], [Qh].
Hero raises, 2 folds, MP1 3-bets, MP2 calls, 1 fold, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls, Hero caps, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (28 SB) [Qs], [2d], [Qd] (7 players)
SB bets, BB raises, Hero calls, MP1 3-bets, MP2 folds, CO folds, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls, Hero caps, MP1 calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Turn: (24 BB) [6h] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls.

River: (29 BB) [Kd] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, MP1 raises, Button 3-bets, SB folds, BB folds, Hero caps, MP1 calls, Button calls.

Final Pot: 41 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Qc Qh (four of a kind, queens).
MP1 has 8d Jd (flush, king high).
Button has 6d Ad (flush, ace high).
Outcome: Hero wins 41 BB.

I'm extremely happy with how this turned out. However, I'm wondering if there would be a way to extract a few more extra bets out of this.

Flop: I called knowing I was MILES ahead of everyone and didn't want to scare anyone away. But then someone 3-bet it, so I thought if I didn't raise it, I might lose out on a few more bets. I cap it.

Turn: I bet out since I capped it on the flop and wish ANYONE raised me.

River: Perfect situation.

Any suggestions?

Suggestions:

(1) Buddy list each and every one of the monkeys in this pot with you

(2) Kick yourself in the ass for not moving up in limits like you were contemplating. :P This wouldve been a $250 pot at 3/6...and at 20/40...$1600? *wince*

I think that might be the biggest pot i have ever seen.

The only way to get more value outta this one is to for a turn C/R, but then of course you run the risk of it checking around. youd think that it couldnt POSSIBLY check around because someone else MUST have a big pair, but i dunno - looking at the crap these guys were playin for a cap, i wouldnt be so sure.I think you probably played it optimally.

I cannot imagine EVER seeing play this awful at 2/4 or 3/6. This was the loosest 1/2 table I could find, and boy do I love these loose tables. You win one pot and you're up for the session.

calling two bets and then capping would have sent off alarm bells in my head. do you think there could have been more action from the blinds on the turn if you had just called on the flop? having them make and/or call one more big bet on the turn seems like it would be much better than having them call one small one on the flop.

regardless... very nice pot.

You greedy SOB.

Flopping quads. you win a 41BB pot, and are looking to extract more? I can't think of how you could've extracted more from that pot. The only thing you could've done differently is check the turn, but then if MP1 and Button both check as well, you've actually LOST 4 BB there. I think if you check/raise on the turn, you don't get all that action on the river, even though the other donkeys hit their respective flushes.

If I were sober last night, I probably would have also asked about calling the flop bet, then capping it. I think that was the first time I cold-called then capped on the flop. I knew if I didn't cap the flop, no one would.

Had I been sober, I would have also noticed that once MP1 3-bet it, both the SB/BB slowed down, which means they probably would not have lead out on the turn.

So in retrospect, I think I played it optimally.

"if I were sober..."

Words of regret I've uttered a few times in my life.

Just also think--if you played that well drunk, how well would you play sober?
