The main problem I have with the "let's not play the blame game" line is that Brown would still be in charge of FEMA if people hadn't complained about him. If analyzing the situation and determining what isn't working is called the "blame game," then I'm all for playing it. If the mayor of New Orleans screwed up, then he should be held every bit as accountable as Brown.

I agree completely on not relying on the government to save the day in situations like these, but as long as we're paying tax dollars for organizations like FEMA, we should at the very least make sure we're getting our money's worth.

Nobody had a problem with what FEMA did during the 911 crisis in NY or the other big hurricane in Florida. FEMA had the same big wig at that time.

Maybe its because the local officials in those cities and states did a better job?

The mayor of N.O. has bought a house in Dallas and enrolled his kid (s) in Dallas schools. Is he planning on staying here in Dallas? What kind of leader is that? He needs to get his butt back to N.O. and deal with this problem.

Poker seems to be an incredibly liberal bunch of people, at least on this site. I sometimes have to stop myself from throwing up reading some of the comments. I don't really understand people's logic: by the time the election happens, there are literally 2 people who stand a chance of getting elected president, and the alternative is what? John Kerry!?!?! Jesus. But without bringing partisanship into it too much, I wouldn't wish the presidency on my worst enemy, what a horrible thing to have to do. I hear people whining about everything the president says or does, but no matter who the president is you can't make people happy......ever. For example, Bush says the director of FEMA was doing a good job -- criticism: Bush is an idiot, the FEMA director is incompetent. OR lets say, Bush says the FEMA director is an idiot -- criticism: Bush is just trying to shift the blame and not take responsibility for his own shortcomings. Here's another way to look at it, I hear a lot of complaining that this idiot shouldn't have been made the head of FEMA in the first place, well, that very well may be true, however, it's pretty much how things are done, the president gets to place people in positions, usually these are people of their same party and campaign contributors. You don't like it? Fine. But don't act like Bush is some kind of anti-christ, you're telling me John Kerry would have been putting well qualified, Republican, non-campaign contributors as the director of FEMA?
I realize that I'm ranting now, but I still have another point, what's the point of wasting everyones time whining about Bush, it's all anyones heard for 5 years now, it's old....do you think if anyone else was president right now and hurricane Katrina had hit everything would have gone smoothly and everyone would be sitting around saying oh, what a great president so and so is. No. The only thing anyone can ever do is bitch, if they can't bitch, they aren't happy, so they will find something to bitch about. Certain people who have been posting a lot recently (I won't mention names) seem to be making it their mission in life to somehow prove how much Bush is an idiot. Why? How does that solve anything, the man is the President of the United States, that won't change until the end of his term. Instead of wasting energy whining, why don't you do something good, make a difference, get in there and help the Katrina efforts yourself.

I find it bizarre that Huricane Katrina is the first ever storm in the history on mankind to be politicized.

Instead of everyone running to their Republican camp or their Democrat camp we used to say, "Mother Nature can be cruel."

Now its... "Bush is a fool." or "The mayor was a fool for X" or my personal favorite, "Bush doesn't like black people."

JJ you are missing major thing here. People voicing their displeasure with the actions of Goverenment is the way our system works. If people didnt say anything or didnt care about the action of the president/Government then out system wouldnt ever change. People voicing their displeasure with the action with Katrina, will hopefully make sure this doesnt happen again. The fact that Bush has been taking heat for his choice to lead FEMA will hopefull lead to our next president choosing someone who is more qualified to get such jobs. I dont know if your your comments were directed towards me, I do think Bush is an idiot, though my goal in life is not to prove he is an idiot. People will make their own decisions and what I post on this board will have zero impact on what people think. I think a lot of us liberals that make you want to puke are a lot of the people that gave money to the BTP charity tournament which raised $600 for the relief effort. I also donated $500 of my own money to the red cross. Other than giving money there really isnt a lot us liberals can do to help.

Kenny make no mistake that the ideal of democracy in this country is on par with a steamboat race for years. Part of the problem is the democrats being afraid of some red faced enthusiasm from the person best suited for job out of all the canidates.
