I figured the other day I'd just reach out and touch the proverbial 3rd rail and open a poltical post on "Why I Like George Bush"

I did it for 3 reasons:

1) It's what I believe.
2) My undergrad degree is in International Politics which is basically a degree in arguing. So I like the exchange.
3) I wanted to see how the BTP forum would respond.

I'm fairly impressed that with the numerous, divergent viewpoints everyone has stayed pretty civil notwithstanding such a controversial subject.

I imagine a different forum would have eroded into personal attacks and flames.

Yeah I'm impressed and happy the political arguing has been civil, and I do find it interesting as a Brit to see the opinions of Americans on political issues.

Personally I'm not a fan of Bush, as someone watching from over the pond he doesn't come across as the most astute person, it seems as though he's able to connect to the 'common man' (I don't mean that as an elitist slur), but that he's unable to argue his case in a deliberate, intelligent and intricate manner.

I also find it distasteful regarding the whole evolution vs intelligent design comment he made a few weeks ago, when he said that humans were too complex to be the result of evolution. I think this is an issue that is not well served by a president tossing in his two cents on an issue he is not an expert on. If priests, academics and scientists want to argue it out then fine, I just think it's risky for politicians to wade into it, it isn't a matter of opinion, facts should be what decides this argument. Because in this case, unlike political matters, there has to be a demonstrable, factually correct answer.

Just my British observations,

I make no effort to imply any 'correct' answer regarding evolution/intelligent design debate, just that political leaders have no place in scientific or religious matters.

Nah, go ahead. I stole it, then quoted without attribution. As Uncle Miltie used to say, "I know a good joke when I steal it."

I just give myself a 2 post maximum, which is enough to get my ideas across without getting into 7 pages of pointless arguing.

I used to spend waaay too much time in politcal threads, until I realized that no one in those things ever changes their mind (myself included).

Sorry, just got sucked out on a $10SNG with TT by Q5s. I'm slightly insane.

Chin up, CJ.
Just keep putting the money in when you are a favorite(unless it is way early ;) )
I just went through a period of OOTM finishes in SNGs (My main money maker.)
7 straight finishes out of the money does hurt, but I knew it was coming.

Politics? I would rather discuss religion(Opiate for the masses).
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Quoting Lenin is not going to make you popular around here. :)

It was on the bubble, too. That's what will make you insane. Gawd, there some really sorry poker players out there, who get lucky, and think they're good.

Thanks for the support.
