Agreed... although I DO love the Simpsons, I think it's fair to state that the WORST episode of Family Guy is about equivalent to the best Simpsons episodes...

Might not be a particularly incisive or interesting view, but I think the Simpsons is the best TV show ever made.

I probably marginally prefer futurama, from a personal point of view. At its best, I probably laugh more at South Park than just about any other show. Pretty sure family guy would hit my top 5 cartoons as well.

It's wierd that all the best American comedy shows are cartoons - I bet if you were to name the top 5 or 10 funniest shows on American TV in the last 15 years, maybe 70% of them would be animated. I can think of lots of really funny shows made in Britain, but not a single really good cartoon show (that I can think of, anyhow?). On the flipside, I can't really think of any decent American sit-coms (that I've seen, anyhow). Most of the highly successful ones really suck, in fact - Frasier was good for a few series and Friends is OK in a sort of drippy, can't-really-be-bothered-watching-something-else sort of way, but I'm struggling to think of anything else I'd watch going back to Cheers, which was good (if maybe a bit overrated, though I still think Norm is just about the best sitcom character ever). So many of the other primetime ones i've seen have been total dogshit, Ellen, Home Improvement, just about anything that's a spin-off from another show (frasier excepted), Will and Grace - about as funny as attaching a straw to your own collostomy bag and sucking up that excremental goodness.

Anyhow, now i'm rambling. But I have successfully killed most of the 15 minuts it's going to take for my fish pie to cook. Tally ho!

Monk, try Arrested Development if you haven't seen it, I think it's shown on BBC2, 11pm, Sunday evenings, i'm a big fan.

Monk: Dude! Ya gotta like married with children! Of course it was a tad overdone, but cmon, the image of al bundy as 'joe six pack', and peg his nagging wife who was just a cheerleader he banged while he was on his highschool football team and ended up marrying. THat IMHO is one of the greatest shows made. Props for likin futurama too! Why did that show go off the air, is my question? It was totally awsome.

Your right about cartoons, and i dunno why that is. Beavis and Butthead and king of the hill are two more great american cartoons, both a hell of a lot better than *GAG* Everybody loves raymond, although to be fair, MVP was telling me how his love and appreciation of that show go 'As deep as the oceans waters', in his own words.

In my opinion The Simpsons in it's prime was JUST as good as Family Guy, and they did it first and they did it for longer. I thought this week's Family Guy was alright but last week's was TERRIBLE.

Of course it goes without saying that the new episodes of The Simpsons aren't even close to how it was in its glory days.

I thought king of the hill semi-sucked to be honest, though Dale was quite funny.

Haven't really watched arrested development but for some reason I get the feeling I don't like it. Odd huh. Must be some sort of subliminal messaging beamed into my brain by the government, perhaps from that laundry van that's been say outside on the street for the last 2 weeks. Might explain the headaches too..

Goddamn! Does anyone else beside me like Arrested Development?

Family Guy rules, there's something too sanitary about the Simpsons that doesn't excite me, I'll watch it, but I won't decide to watch it over and above something else.
