If you have both the blue and the white input ports, then you can dual monitor. If you don't, then you will need to buy a new video card. (I'd recomend on with dual-dvi out ports) and I can suggest a few if needs be, but have a look at the image first

Then you won't be able to dual-monitor. I suggest buying the XFX 6600 GT w/dual-dvi: . Both your 2001FPs will be able to use the dvi port then.

The ports on that don't seem to be compatible with my cords. I have the standard looking one that is plugged in and this white one that has a vertical dash at the top, then a 3x3 matrix of "prongs" and a little space below it and another 3x3.

Does the "dash" go between those 4 holes on the right side of the port on the video card you sent me, and then the prongs go in various holes below?

You guys must think I am retarded by now. I'll go out tommorow and look for this video card if it is in fact compatible with this goofy white cord I have sitting beside me.

Whats the adapter for? To hook the white cord up to the open port on my computer? That makes sense, except you said you don't think I have dual monitor capability yet.

The computer is a Dell.

forget the adaptor... i just remembered that you said that the ports look identical.

try plugging your old monitor and your current 2001fp into the two available ports. this might wake up XP's plug and play features to give you a walkthrough in setting up dual monitors.

also, try checking the "monitors" tab under the "advanced" area in the display-settings control panel (as mentioned above).

fwiw, i can adjust my dual monitor set up under a tab called "displays" in the display-settings-advanced dialogue box. i can't make out enough of the text to see if you have that tab.

anyway, it's looking bleak. i would still get the monitor and invest the extra dough to buy a new video card and get it installed (if necessary). you definitely will not regret it... in fact, you will start trying to figure out a way to get three.

as for the SHLHE lessons... i'll definitely take you up on that. :D thanks for the offer.
