Manning vs. Brady

Postby slaz13 » Thu Jan 20, 2005 5:52 pm

This debate has been raging quite a bit lately. Down by 6 with 2:00 left in the 4th quarter who would you rather have driving your team. My money's on Manning. I think Brady is the Robert Horry/Steve Kerr of the NFL, right place/right time, and a good player, but not a great player like Manning. Any thoughts?

I agree wholeheartedly!
If you're gonna play trash, expect it to get taken out.

(I hate those people who quote themselves, but that's one of my original lines).

i see where ur going with this but let me add something to the scenario.

2:00 left your down by 6 who would u rather play manning or Brady?
(and its a playoff game.)

u wanna start a franchise get manning.
u wanna win championships get Brady.

It doesnt matter how many tds u throw or how many points u score it dont mean a thing unless u get the "W". Quote by Brett Favre

It doesnt matter how much wins u have or how much momentum u got all that matters is how much rings u have. Quote by Rod Smith

and to me manning is this generation of marino in the nfl
I have 3 sevens and u have only 2 jacks I guess your just one "JACK OFF".

Dr. Z of Sports Illustrated compared Brady with Montana in his column, today. He said both don't have the flashy numbers, the big stats and everything it takes to be considered a Marino, but both play better as the stakes go up. When it's a championship on the line, both step up and win.

Was watching ESPN2 last night. NFL Films of the Rams/Pats Super Bowl of 2002. (Or is it 2001, because it's after the 2001 season?) Anyway, I forgot just how great Brady was in that game. St. Louis comes back to tie from a 17-3 deficit. Everybody knows it's going to be the first OT Super Bowl. Brady calmly moves the Pats down the field within field goal range for Adam Vinatieri to kick the winner. It's even more impressive now than it was then.

2 Rings. 2 Super Bowl MVPs. And there is any question in the world who you would want to have as your quarterback with 2 minutes left? Anyone who says Manning is their choice is smoking crack. Or does not know football.

I agree with your points, but surely you dont think Brady is the best QB in the league.
I can think of alot of QBs that will look a heck of a lot better if they were on NE.

Once again, I agree with everything you said (excelt that Bradys only had one bad game). I didnt say that other QBs would be a better fit. I said alot of QBs would look better playing for NE (than they do playing for their team). What I mean is that its BECAUSE NE has such a strong team concept. They dont have alot of superstars but they are ALL solid and they have no weaknesses.

If Brady was on any number of other teams, he would look much more average. I dont think he can carry a team like a Marino or Elway or alot of others did.

Thats why I say he isnt even close to being the best QB in the league. But as you say, he probably IS the perfect fit for NE.

I can only think of only like 3 quartebacks that are better than Brady in the league right now. Manning, Mcnabb and probaly.......culpepper. but it tell u what crady is better than all qbs in the league. hes probably the best to work under clutch situations(so if u need a 2 minute drive u take brady obvioulsy) and Brady works so calmly underpressure in the pocket, if he knows hes about to get sack hes gonna keep his eye on his receiver to throw it to u until he gets open or throw it away securely instead of running and panicking around the pocket.

The way I look at it is this...If you switched the two QB's situations what would happen. I think NE still wins the Superbowls with Manning as QB, but if Brady is QB in Indy, do they even make the playoffs. I 'm not sure Brady could put up 30 points a game to overcome that terrible Indy D, like Manning does.

Why is it that Montana is considered the best, or right behind Marino, yet Brady, with much the same career so far is considered so average at best? I just cannot understand why Brady and the Pats get so little respect. Belichek is considered one of the best coaches ever, yet his team is only now making believers.

Are they simply so efficient that they are drab by comparison? Smoke and mirrors? Luck? This is a team that has won two of the last three Super Bowls, won more games in a row than any team in history, and may very well win three out of four. Yet, Brady is no better than four, fifth or sixth best QB in the league.

I just don't get it. Maybe I never will. No doubt there will be no one years from now who will say he deserves the Hall of Fame. Manning? No doubt about it. Brady, he's just a part of the system. Wanna bet who the Pats players would take? I know. They know him, and he is their leader. They believe he will find a way to win. Wanna also bet there are players on the Colts who have doubts they'll ever get to the Super Bowl?

Has there EVER been a two-time Super Bowl MVP who is considered an average QB?
