POP3 email...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Tue Nov 15, 2005 3:15 pm

Okay, I'm not the most computer savvy person in the world, but not the worst either... However, I HAVE run into this problem occasionally, and didn't know what to do about it, and happily avoided it till now...

Basically, I'm playing Paradise, where you have to go thru the bullcrap of having hands emailed to you to load them into PT... Now, I can do this by havin em email, then copying them into a text file and yadda yadda yadda, which is a real pain in the ass... But, when I go into PT, it says I can set up a Pop3 email, and it'll check automatically... Basically, this is a longwinded way of asking what the hell a pop3 email is, and can I use it...?

I have AOL unfortunately, and don't know what to type when it asks me crap like "server name" and "server port"... Also, if I set up the damned thing, then does PT ask Paradise to email the HHs, or do I still have to keep requesting them every 100 hands...? I know that's more of a PT forum question, but no one posts in that thread, and it's kinda related to my origional question...

Thanks guys...

Yahoo's POP3 is a paid service. Something like $20/yr I think. Try it with a gmail address. And the server address will be something like pop3.gmail.com. You should be able to look it up in the options in your gmail account.

I don't use this feature in PT btw - so I might be missing some details

If you have a yahoo account where you receive the paradise hand history files, I will post simple instructions on how you can get them into PT quickly.

Actually, I'll just do it now.

1) Go here:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/free ... rror=voxel

And install the program that downloads.

2) Run the program (there'll be a link on your desktop). It acts as a middleman between poker tracker and yahoo web mail (and a bunch of other web mail services, like gmail etc.), because the two don't like each other.

3) Go into poker tracker, Utilities menu, then POP3 Email setup.
Fill in:

server name: localhost
username: youraddress@yahoo.com
password: blahblahblah
server port #: 2000

do not check use secure connection.

4) click test, and it should say it was okay, if so then click save.

That's all the setup.

To import from now on, first request the history from paradise (or use PT to do it automatically, click the hand icon in the top row of icons).
Once you have some files in your mail, then in PT click the elephant icon on the far left. Then "Check POP3 email".

Make sure that you always run the freepops program before you click the check pop3 email button. If you don't, PT will spin its wheels for a couple minutes before it times out.
But it's not the end of the world.
