Well, me, mike the mizor and steve the mizor (another card player we know) were sposed to goto the commerce tonight, but for some reason i feel like im unlucky right now and that i am going to run bad, and dont want to go. My other roomate (non cardplayer) says this is dumb superstition, and if i feel like i am on top of my game, well rested and playing fine that thinking im going to be unlucky is no excuse for not going 'to work'. I kindof agree with him, and am not one for dumb superstiition (except the one that says i CANNOT lose with either 46s or 86s and get as much money in with those hands as possible). ...But at the same time i just feel like im going to run bad, and dont really want to go. Its not that i dont feel like playing or dont want to play, but i just have this nagging feeling that im going to run terrible. Just wanted the opinion of some other card playin' mizors on the matter.

i agree with your other roommate. If i feel like playing, then I will play whether I think I will run bad or not. I have had those feelings and i would win anyway. I stick to the cliche "its all one big poker game" so if I'm gonna run bad, its will happen eventually and I can't stop it. i just got to keep playing.

don't go.

i don't buy the superstition nonsense, but i do buy the idea that our brains sometimes send us subtle signals about our state of mind. my guess is that you won't play your A-game even if you currently think you will.

as a second option, i would take rdale's advice. of course, given the mizorly way you play, you could be looking for the bar after your first hand.

don't go.

Well rested and playing fine is all well and good but still dont go. More than anything poker is a mental challenge, if some part of your brain is telling you not to play dont. If you think you are going to run bad, there is a major part of you mental process that is messed up already and you havent even started real mental grind of playing.

Ok I have to edit this to add one more point. We all know your mental process's are messed up anyways but somehow the ones that involve poker atleast function relatively well.

I know that feeling. I usually get it after a few orbits in a tournament... the thought dawns upon me, "I'm not gonna get any good cards to hold up, am I?". And sure enough, few orbits later, get all in with kings or something, get cracked by a monster such as A3, and I'm out. It's pretty rare that I have that feeling unless I've been running sorta bad lately, or maybe just breaking even or something. I can't think of one time I've had that feeling when I was winning the last 3 sessions prior.

But yeah, don't go.
