Folding TPTK...

Postby EscapePlan9 » Mon Dec 19, 2005 1:48 pm

This was early on in a $30+3 SNG on PokerRoom. Blinds are 15/30. I have [As] [Qs] on BTN.

EP raises to 80, MP calls, I call (BTN), BB calls.

Flop comes [Qc] [2c] [3h] (~320 in pot)
BB checks, EP bets 160, MP folds, I raise to 400, BB folds. EP pushes all-in.
I fold.

Here's the range of hands I put him on after the push:
AA (slightly less likely since I have an ace)
KK
QQ (very unlikely since all four queens would be used)
JJ (very gutsy move, perhaps thinking I have something like 99)
[Ac] [Kc] (gutsy move after I showed this strength)
[Ac] [Jc]
AQ (we tie)
KQ (very unlikely)

So... I figure the likeliest hand I'm against is KK-AA, especially considering the small EP raise. This a good read?

I think a good case could be made for folding preflop too since against an EP raiser I'm really only hoping to flop a flush, straight, or trips with my AQ. But, I should add, at PokerRoom you start with 1500 chips and blinds increase every 8 minutes, so you do not have to play as tight as you would on PartyPoker and the likes.

Nice work. His bet on the flop looks like a c-bet. His push over your raise is bad news. You raise to know where you are. You are not good, I think. Not a hand I'll go broke with. Good laydown. I think your hand range is exactly right, and I suspect KK or AK, or you'll get your chips back later.
