In Germany, unemployment is pretty high. So a while back, they made a law that says you can only collect your unemployment compensation if you are unemployed through no fault of your own. Part of that is that if you turn down a job, you lose your unemployment.
Also in recent years, what with the de-Christianization of a lot of Europe, there's been a push to de-stigmatize prostitution. It's legal in the Netherlands, of course, and I guess it's now legal in Germany as well. Brothels are now legitimate, tax-paying businesses.
I'm not really a libertarian, but I have my impulses that way sometimes. I would definitely be pro- the legalization of pot etc. So at least to a part of my brain, both of these laws sort of make sense. Don't they to you, too?
The problem comes when you combine the two laws.
Apparently a woman in Germany turned down an offered job as a hooker, and so she's going to be denied unemployment.
