Got back from work late tonight, so only played for an hour or so... was down almost $8 at one point, but got some good hands and the rest of the table just kept paying off, so finished up $1.25.

Also cleared another $10 of the Check-N-Raise bonus, so that puts my bankroll just under $100 more than what it was a week ago when I started.

1/10/2006 stats:
$.25/$.50 Omaha Hi - 47 hands - 5.32 BB/100

Total stats:
$.25/$.50 Omaha Hi - 1,415 hands - 3.15 BB/100
$.15/$.30 LHE - 1089 hands - 7.16 BB/100
$.25/$.50 LHE - 153 hands - 0.72 BB/100
$10 NLHE - 113 hands - 50.66 PTBB/100

Starting BR: $152.06
Current BR: $249.21
Won so far: $67.15 :)
Bonus earned so far: $30.00

The days I have to go into the office (as opposed to working from home) really cut into my poker time, but what can you do? :(

Made my first foray into the world of limit Omaha Hi/Lo tonight. The smallest (for that matter, the only) limit O8 game that's spread at my current site - Check-N-Raise - is $.50/$1, and I wasn't sure if that was too high for my bankroll, as I only have 250 BB for that level. I was wondering if I should move some money over to Stars and start out at their nano-limit tables. As it turns out, I might not need to worry about it that much. :D

Maybe some of the more experienced O8 players can chime in here, but it sure seemed like there were a lot more people chasing the low pot than chasing the high pot, and as a result, the average winning high hand I was seeing in this session was weaker on average than a winning hand in Omaha High - I was seeing a lot more top pair/2-pair hands win, including one of mine where I had top two pair, and two other people split the low. Nice for me - I'm putting in 1/3 of the bets, but getting half the pot. :)

I had a couple of hands where I played a hand with 4 cards above 10 - one of them I ended up with the nut straight, and the other I got a full house. Both were good-sized pots, and both had no possible lows. I also got my first hi/lo scoop on the last hand of the session with a wheel straight. All in all, I finished my first session up a cool $13.80.

Also played some short sessions of Omaha Hi and hold-em - about broke even between those sessions.

1/11/2006 stats:
$.50/$1 Omaha Hi/Lo - 49 hands - 28.16 BB/100
$.25/$.50 Omaha Hi - 50 hands - -12.40 BB/100
$.25/$.50 LHE - 15 hands - 46.67 BB/100

Total stats:
$.25/$.50 Omaha Hi - 1,465 hands - 2.62 BB/100
$.15/$.30 LHE - 1089 hands - 7.16 BB/100
$.25/$.50 LHE - 168 hands - 4.82 BB/100
$10 NLHE - 113 hands - 50.66 PTBB/100
$.50/$1 Omaha Hi/Lo - 49 hands - 28.16 BB/100

Starting BR: $152.06
Current BR: $263.41
Won so far: $81.35 :)

Played a couple of hours of $.50/$1 LO8 tonight. Started off good, but then a combination of cold cards and playing cards that I probably shouldn't have played in O8 left me down for the night.

1/12/2006 stats:

Ok, since I'm taking a break from running the gauntlet due to a lack of dedicated playing funds, I'll clean off the cobwebs on my original journal.

I'm back at Stars for the time being, putting in lots of time on their $5 PLO tables before I take another shot at the Party $25's. So far, the action has been crazier here than it was on Party - maybe the small blinds ($.01/$.02) just feel like play money to everyone. I've been consciously working on being more aggressive, and it seems to be working so far - a AF of 1.38 through my first 123 hands, compared with 0.6 over 3K hands at Party. I've taken down a few smaller pots by just betting my draws until everyone else gave up, which is nice. I've also gotten involved in a few big pots, and came out the winner in most of those skirmishes - the one big one I lost was a straight draw that missed where twodimes.net put me at 50.4% equity - basically a coin flip. I can already feel the difference having a bigger bankroll (I'm at something like 90 buy-ins for the $5 game) makes, as I'm not as reluctant to mix things up.

$5 PLO stats through 4/18:
Hands: 123
BB/100: 99.19
Amount won: $4.88

Played some more $5 PLO yesterday and today. Didn't really win any huge pots (the kind where everybody gets all-in), but since I've been making an effort to be more aggressive, I've been picking up more of the smaller pots that nobody else wants. Little by little, those add up.

Another thing that I've really been paying a lot more attention to lately is position - looking at my stats in PTO, my VP$P in pretty tight in EP, and in every position is just a little looser as it gets to the button. Being able to act last in PLO is a huge advantage, I'm finding out.

As far as future plans, right now I have about $223 in my PokerStars account. I'll probably stay at the $5's until I run that up to $300, which gives me 30 buy-ins for the $10's. From there, run it up to $500, at which time I think I'll be ready for another shot at the $25's. I'll actually have closer to 30 buy-ins by that time, including the money I have sitting at Doyle's Room. So far I'm finding that I'm playing a lot better when I'm not playing with a short bankroll, even if that shortness was artificially induced.

$5 PLO stats through 4/20:
Hands: 823
BB/100: 50.52 <-- wonder how long I can keep that up. :)
Amount won: $16.63

I also need about 1000 more "Action Points" to clear my bonus at Doyle's Room, so I played about an hour of $.25/$.50 LHE tonight. With playing so much PLO lately, I had forgotten just how bad those players can be at that level - betting with air - EVERY HAND!, cold-calling raises with Q5o, etc. Here's my favorite hand from tonight. Villian just sat down a while ago, and has played every single hand, raising 25% of them. He's actually up for the session because he keeps pushing people out of pots. Well, he didn't push me out of this one....

Well, I'm still liking the PLO tables at Stars. Played some more this weekend, and finished with more money than I started. Since I have more than the recommended 20 buy-ins for the $10 PLO games, I've been sitting in on those games sooner than I had planned last post, just to size up the competition. Right now I'm doing about 50-50 between the $5 games and the $10 games.

So far, the competition doesn't seem all that much tougher at the $10 games - here are a few of my favorite hands so far:

Poker Stars
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.05/$0.10
8 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $11.90
UTG+1: $5.30
MP1: $4.80
MP2: $9.35
Hero: $10
Button: $5.05
SB: $12.75
BB: $4.85

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is CO with [Qc] [8h] [Qd] [Ac]
2 folds, MP1 raises to $0.2, MP2 folds, Hero calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: [Th] [4c] [4s] ($1, 5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP1 bets $0.2, Hero calls, 2 folds, BB calls.

Turn: [Qs] ($1.6, 3 players)
BB checks, MP1 bets $0.5, Hero raises to $1, BB folds, MP1 calls.

River: [Js] ($3.6, 2 players)
MP1 bets $0.5, Hero raises to $3, MP1 calls.

Results:
Final pot: $9.6

He called down with trips - not even an underfull...

Poker Stars
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.05/$0.10
8 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $12.30
UTG+1: $25.80
Hero: $9.75
MP2: $15.15
CO: $3.55
Button: $16.25
SB: $7.90
BB: $12.90

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is MP1 with [4h] [Qd] [4s] [Ah]
UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, Hero calls, MP2 calls, CO folds, Button calls, SB calls, BB checks.

Flop: [Th] [7h] [8h] ($0.6, 6 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $0.3, MP2 folds, Button calls, 3 folds.

Turn: [Kd] ($1.2, 2 players)
Hero bets $1.15, Button calls.

River: [2s] ($3.5, 2 players)
Hero bets $3.35, Button calls.

Results:
Final pot: $10.2

Somebody hasn't learned not to chase non-nut flushes (yet)

Poker Stars
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.05/$0.10
9 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $13.55
UTG+1: $14
MP1: $2.95
MP2: $7.80
MP3: $16.25
Hero: $9.85
Button: $8.60
SB: $3.70
BB: $7.35

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is CO with [Kh] [Ad] [Kd] [5c]
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, Hero calls, Button raises to $0.3, 2 folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP3 calls, Hero calls.

Flop: [Ks] [3d] [8c] ($1.95, 6 players)
UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 bets $0.5, MP3 calls, Hero raises to $1, 3 folds, MP1 calls, MP3 calls.

That's about the best possible flop for a pair of Kings. Just throw out a min-raise and see who's still interested

Turn: [7c] ($4.95, 3 players)
MP1 checks, MP3 checks, Hero bets $4.75, MP1 calls all-in $1.65, MP3 folds.
Uncalled bets: $3.1 returned to Hero.

Ok, now there are some draws - time to charge anyone who wants to keep drawing

River: [7h] ($8.25, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $8.25)

Results:
Final pot: $8.25

Villian had Kings up...

$5 PLO stats through 4/23:
Hands: 1284
BB/100: 44.94 <-- I'm slipping...
Amount won: $23.08

$10 PLO stats through 4/23:
Hands: 180
BB/100: 29.72
Amount won: $10.70

Also played some more LHE on Doyle's Room to keep clearing that bonus. Gave back everything I had won before and then some, but I'm so used to that by now, it doesn't even phase me. A good chunk of the loss came from pocket Kings being cold-called with 75o and getting trip 5's. I just laugh at hands like that now.

$.25/$.50 LHE stats through 4/23:
Hands: 332
BB/100: (0.81)
Amount won: ($1.35)

Well, I'm not exaclty sure what's going on, but I like it! This month has started the same way the last month left off - on an absolute heater. My BR is probably $500 higher than it was before the first Party reload bonus last weekend (was that only last weekend?)

For example, yesterday I deposited $200 on Full Contact Poker (pokerroom skin) to take advantage of a 100% deposit bonus. Between the $.50/$1 LHE, $.50/$1 LO8 and $.25/$.50 LOH tables, I promptly ran it up to about $260 by this afternoon. At this point, I'm close to 20 buy-ins for $50 PLO (including my BR on other sites). There was a juicy game going on, so I took a seat - first time in a $50 game of any type. Since I'm already up $60 since depositing last night, I'm basically playing with other people's money. :)

I won about $10 pretty early on, but then lost $30 when my nut straight got sucked out on the river. I had about 75% equity after the turn, so I'm not too worried about it - I got my money in with the best hand. That took me down to about $30, so I reloaded and then lost another $25 on a big draw that missed. That took me down to about a $45 loss for the session. I didn't tilt, or try to win it back right away. I took my shot, gained some experience, and promptly hopped on a $25 PLO game and a couple of $.50/$1 LO8 games. In the PLO game, I finally left with $98, and finished both LO8 sessions in the black. :D Including $20 in cleared bonuses, I'm now up to $308 on FCP.

I have PT installed on my new laptop now, so these stats are from May 1st. I haven't worried about how to get any of my old hands into this database...

STATS SINCE 5/1:

$.50/$1 LHE:

Ok, one more session tonight. My personal "cushion" for LHE is 500 BB, and believe it or not, I'm actually there for $1/$2 now. So, I gave $1/$2 a shot.

$1/$2 LHE:
Hands: 109
BB/100: 2.98
Amount won: $6.50

Would have been $16 more, but my Kings got busted on the river by someone calling down with AQo... :(

And, if my calculations are correct, my total BR (spread across UB, Stars, and FCP) broke $1K tonight - the first time since I had to withdraw most of it for the washer/dryer back in December. :D

Even though I now have the recommended bankroll for $50 PLO - $50 NLHE - $1/$2 LHE, I'm not in any hurry to move up. For the most part, I'll still stick to the smaller games, and sitting in on one of the bigger games once in a while if I find a good one.

Finished down $4.40 for the day, but that's a lot better than the way the day started - when I dropped 2 1/2 stacks at PLO$25 (~$67.50 down) pretty much right off the bat.

THE UGLY

Ultimate Bet Pot-Limit Omaha High, $.25 BB (9 handed) from (Format: Bet The Pot)

BB ($33.60)
UTG ($18.95)
UTG+1 ($9.40)
Hero ($25.10)
MP2 ($48.50)
MP3 ($21)
CO ($28.45)
Button ($5.75)
SB ($20)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Jc], [As], [4s], [Ah]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, MP2 calls $0.75, MP3 calls $0.75, 3 folds.

So far, so good.

Flop: ($2.50) [Th], [Qs], [6c] (3 players)
Hero bets $2.5, MP2 calls $2.50, MP3 folds.

Hmmm... he didn't fold like he was supposed to

Turn: ($7.50) [3d] (2 players)
Hero bets $7.5, MP2 raises to $30, Hero calls $14.35 (All-In).

Played like a true fish. :( This is exactly the kind of play that I stack other people with. I know better than to overplay Aces like this.

River: ($59.35) [7c] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $59.35

Results in white below:
Showdown:

Ray_McKegney shows Qh Td 5c Kh.
Ray_McKegney has Qh Td Th Qs 7c: two pair, queens and tens.
stickdude shows Jc As 4s Ah.
stickdude has As Ah Th Qs 7c: a pair of aces.

Outcome: MP2 wins $59.35.

I'm not sure which category to include this one in. I had put villian on a high overpair - AA/KK, and thought my 2 pair would beat him. In fact, I was ahead on the turn, but he had huge draws (like over half the deck), so I was actually a 2:1 dog on the turn...

converter doesn't seem to like this one for some reason.

Pre-flop:

smb01 folds. CABCALLY checks. kynuts folds.
mrlivemusic calls. stickdude calls. bam888 calls.
allibru raises to $1.85. Mo67 folds. CABCALLY
calls. mrlivemusic folds. stickdude calls. bam888
folds.

Probably should have folded this one after it's raised behind me.

Flop (board: [4c] [5d] [Jd]):

allibru bets $2. CABCALLY calls. stickdude calls.

I doubt he has the other 2 jacks, so he's almost certainly got an overpair or a draw of some type.

Turn (board: [4c] [5d] [Jd] [Tc]):

allibru bets $12.40. CABCALLY folds. stickdude goes
all-in for $35.85. allibru goes all-in for $22.65.
stickdude is returned $13.20 (uncalled).

I'm still not sure what I think of this push - none of the draws hit on the turn, and he's still playing this like the typical $25PLO donk with Aces. I did pick up an OESD on the turn, though, giving me at least somthing of a redraw

River (board: [4c] [5d] [Jd] [Tc] [6c]):

(no action in this round)

Showdown:

stickdude shows [Kh] [Jh] [4s] [Qs].
stickdude has [Jh] [4s] [4c] [Jd] [Tc]: two pair, jacks and fours.
allibru shows [Jc] [Qc] [Ad] [Kd].
allibru has [Jc] [Qc] [4c] [Tc] [6c]: flush, queen high.

Hand #31223054-6893 Summary:

$2.85 is raked from a pot of $57.70.
allibru wins $54.85 with flush, queen high.
----------------------------------------------------------------

As it turns out, he had both possible flush draws as well as any A, K, or Q for a higher 2-pair. Here's what it looks like with the actual hands -

One pair and a straight draw. Might not be enough to call the PSB if it's heads-up, but with one other caller, I'm getting good odds to call.

TURN [board cards [3d],[5d],[As],[7h] ]
spruced bets $5, eliele calls $5, stickperson bets $22.75 and is all-in, spruced calls $17.75, eliele calls $17.75.

And there's the card I'm looking for. It'd be nicer if it were a rainbow board, but I don't think I can just call this and essentially give villian a free chance to his his flush.

RIVER [board cards [3d],[5d],[As],[7h],[Kd] ]
spruced bets $4.80 and is all-in, eliele calls $4.80.

Bummer. :(

So, I got my money in as a 2:1 favorite and it didn't work out. That, as they say, is poker.

After that debacle, I took a break for a while and played a $3+.30 MTT on Stars. Didn't finish in the money, so tried one of their $2+R WSOP sattelites - didn't get a spot into their next sattelite, so I'll have to wait until next year for the WSOP. :)

But, the break did what it was supposed to do - get me back on the winning track.

THE GOOD

This was the first session back at the PLO tables. I only won 1 pot in 33 hands, but it was a doozy -

Tried to get it HU with the raiser, but other villian insisted on tagging along.

FLOP [board cards [7d],[7s],[2c] ]
stickperson checks, bmgh checks, cumafish bets $13.25 and is all-in, stickperson calls $13.25, bmgh calls $13.25.

Ugly flop, but the pot's too big to fold now (Yes, to be honest, that's probably tilt talking there...). If he's got the 7, he's got the 7.

TURN [board cards [7d],[7s],[2c],[6d] ]
stickperson checks, bmgh checks.

I only had $3.50 left at this point, so I'm not sure why I didn't go ahead and shove the rest in - it's not like I would have folded to a $3.50 bet with a $60 pot.

RIVER [board cards [7d],[7s],[2c],[6d],[8c] ]
stickperson checks, bmgh checks.

SHOWDOWN

Well, how about that - he didn't have the 7

After that, I wanted to get a taste of PLO8. 123 hand session, and it nothing really big happened - spent most of it with my stack between $20 and $30. And then I got the hand of the day -

PRE-FLOP

If this were PLO, I'd probably raise this to get more money in the pot. However, since this is a high-only hand, I'm not sure if raising here is correct or not.

FLOP [board cards [Kc],[Tc],[Th] ]
cowboy7-27 checks, stickperson checks, dddirty21 checks, labratter checks, minnow47 checks, davejcbox1 bets $0.25, azreal17 calls $0.25, cowboy7-27 folds, stickperson calls $0.25, dddirty21 calls $0.25, labratter folds, minnow47 folds.

Bingo! Most of time, I'll just bet and probably take it down on the flop. However, I can't really be outdrawn here, so perhaps someone with a T can catch one of their sidecards to fill up themselves.

TURN [board cards [Kc],[Tc],[Th],[9s] ]
stickperson checks, dddirty21 checks, davejcbox1 checks, azreal17 checks.

I was all ready to C/R it here, but the other players didn't cooperate.

RIVER [board cards [Kc],[Tc],[Th],[9s],[Js] ]

That's a nice card - maybe it will give someone a straight that they'll want to show down.

stickperson bets $2.75,

Let's go ahead and fire - can't risk it being checked down again.

dddirty21 folds, davejcbox1 folds, azreal17 bets $11,

Oooh!! We've got a live one here!!

stickperson bets $22.30 and is all-in, azreal17 calls $10.50 and is all-in.

Reel him in, boys!

thanks to those hands (and a few others), I was able to pretty much get back to zero. But you can't have a winning day every day (unless you're kennyg), so I can't complain too much.
