Another example of slowplaying gone wrong...

Postby Danhdan » Tue Feb 08, 2005 5:28 am

Party Poker $25 No-Limit Hold'em, $ .50 BB (10 handed)

CO ($38.3)
Button ($39.55)
SB ($3.5)
BB ($30)
Hero ($23.25)
UTG+1 ($29.65)
UTG+2 ($43.95)
MP1 ($26.95)
MP2 ($62.65)
MP3 ($29.85)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Qs], [Qc]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
Hero raises to $3, 6 folds, Button calls $3, SB is all in $3.50, BB calls $3, Hero calls $0.50, Button calls $0.50.

Flop: ($13.35) [Ac], [7c], [As] (4 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($13.35) [Qh] (4 players)
BB is all-In [$26.5], Hero is all-In [$19.75], Button folds.

River: main pot($13.35), side pot($37.55) [5s] (3 players)

Final Pot: main pot($13.35), side pot($37.55)

Results in white below:
SB has 4d Qd (two pair, aces and queens).
BB has 7h 7s (full house, sevens full of aces).
Hero has Qs Qc (full house, queens full of aces).
Outcome: Hero wins $50.90.

Have to love the free card there...especially with the one outer I had. I would have probably given up that hand on the flop to almost any bet because of the SB being all-in and being against two other players, but luckily the BB helped me out.

People try to get too fancy with their play, they will get burned. Nothing is gonna come out to make someone who didn't bet the flop, bet the turn because you showed by your raise preflop and check on the flop that you had a pocket pair (or was playing AK/AQ really bad). Therefore, the only reason to check to you is to try to get you to bluff at the pot and then check raise. Not only does that fail, but then he bets it all on the turn when the ONLY way you can call that is if you caught your boat too. If anything, he should have continued slowplaying to allow you to bluff at it on the turn (assuming you didn't just make your hand) and then check raise, or lead out for something about the size of the pot.

This is a crappy situation for you. As the old saying goes nothing worse than drawing dead and getting there. In this case your not drawing dead but almost and you hit the once card that makes your hand. Your opponant misplayed his hand badly on the turn and got very lucky that you made your hand, if not he lets his monster flop go to waste.
