I was totally lost, play this any differently?

Postby emmasdad » Sun Feb 05, 2006 3:06 am

I was in a B&M 3/6 game last night where the table was loooose and passive. There was at least one hand per orbit where 7 people saw a flop in an unraised pot. Then this hand came:

9 handed live 3/6, blind structure = 2 big blinds.

EP1 - fold
Hero - call [8h], [8c]
MP1 - call
MP2 - call
LP - fold (a fairly solid player, emmasmom)
CO - call
Button - call
SB - check
BB - check (the only other player that I have any respect for at the table)

Flop - [9h], [8s], [6h]

SB - check
BB - Bet 3
Hero - raise to 6
MP1 - call 6
4 folds
BB - call

Turn - [2d]

BB - Bet 6
Hero - Raise to 12
MP1 - call
BB - call

River - [Qd]

BB - Bet 6
Hero - call
MP1 - call.

I raised on the flop to see where I was. When BB flat called then led out when the turn was a brick, I was thoroughly confused. 2 pair? He would have raised PF with JJ or better. If he flat called the flop, why did he not CR the turn? When he does not re-raise me on the turn, I think my hand is probably best, but maybe he has a baby straight? Then MP1 cold calls 2 bets on flop and turn. Figure him for a flush draw. Confusion as to BB though. He flat calls my turn raise then leads into me on the river. Now I have no idea where I am in the hand. I call.

Thoughts? Results to follow.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

The more that I think about this, the more the raise on the river makes sense. Yes, I think that I will get paid off in full at least 50% of the time, and I have 2 callers. If re-raised, I lose to QQ, 99, JT, T7, and 75. The way that the hand played out, BB could have any of those hands except QQ (he would raise pre-flop) and T7 (he would probably reraise the flop and definately reraise the turn) as well as TT, 77, 66 or A9 (probably suited hearts). There may be some other less likely holdings, like 98, 96, or 97. So, I am probably looking at 99, JT, 75, TT, 77, 66, or A9. I can beat more than half of those hands. MP is probably on the flush draw, and has shown no aggression, suggesting that the only hand that he could have that would beat me is JT.

I think I should have raised the river.
