Notice how the same player won all the pots? He's at vpip 95 and 655ptbb/100.

First hand I should have folded preflp, right? On the flop, am I right to raise it with top two on such a draw friendly board? Hand #2 I figure AA double suited with a Q should kick ass against pretty much everything. Obviously flop sucks a bit but pot is $44 and I have $14 left. At least I have a backdoor draw and a straight blocker. Hand #3 my AA is a bit raggy but "enargy" seems to be a muppet and obviously hugorong is calling everything and anything.

hand 1

i would consider folding this preflop. it's only good if you don't overplay on the flop, and, well, that you did.

you played the stupid end of the str8 draw very badly. basically the str8 (if you hit it) was next to worthless given that at least two people like their hands on a middle card coordinated board. this is even more true given that there was a flush draw out.

you were basically drawing to a 4 outer at best, but it ended up that you drove the betting while you were drawing completely dead.

no offense, but this is a MASSIVE donkey error. you probably made a few people's friends list with that one.

hand 2

huh?

nice job getting a lot of money in pf... but you didn't really thin the field. when you whiffed on the flop, you can't expect to take it down betting into three people -- maybe you will sometimes, but it's cavalier to even try. check and dump to heat.

very, very badly overplayed aces.

hand 3

ok, you got all the money in pf, and you probably have more than 1/3 equity. this is a great poster-child case for why AA hands might be worth playing a bit more passively pf.

don't get me wrong, i think you did a +EV thing here... but it's also high variance, and you shouldn't really be surprised if you lose.

you should type "i will not overplay aces in plo" at least 50 times in your journal.

other than that... chin up... you'll be killing these tables soon enough.

Yeah you're right. Way too loose for me really. 4567 would be better. I guess the gap as well as 3 of the same suit should make me fold this. I also assume I am not looking for top two but a wrap with this hand? Or at least a flush backup if I get top two? So on the flop, should I be calling with my top two and crappy str8 draw (folding if someone raises behind me) or just fold?

#2
I actually managed to run the hand in twodimes:

cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ac Qc Ad 8d 240 36.04 426 63.96 0 0.00 0.360
5s 2s Jc 2c 164 24.62 502 75.38 0 0.00 0.246
Js Ts 8s Kd 262 39.34 404 60.66 0 0.00 0.393

I'm only 37% to win. I'm surprised at how badly AA performs in this game. With my much nicer AAQ8 double suited I am at least over 40% against these two hands... still, DAMN.
To be honest once I saw their holdings, both guys calling with flush draws and gutshots, I figured I was a big favorite. Turns out I wasn't even a favorite. Obviously I would get my money in with 36% equity if I could see their cards but I guess what you're saying is that this is just about the worst hands that will ever give me action and even then I am not a favorite.

So what should I have done with my semi-junky AA here? Flat call the raise? Muck it? Call and hope for a set? I am really lost with AA unsetted post flop...

hand 1

i'd fold on the flop. i'm not calling a pot-sized bet for a four-outer (at best... let me remind you that you were drawing dead). you've got a bettor and a caller, so likely at least one of your boat outs are dead. i really don't see why you like this hand.

anyway, yes, a wrap is good. a flush redraw is good. even then, you want to be careful as you really only want to drive the betting on the turn with the nut str8.

the low connected hands can be real trouble as they typically don't have redraws to higher str8s. as such, you have to be VERY careful. you should think that you have close to zero str8 value with this hand on the flop.

hand 2

the two dimes numbers are deceiving as there is a selection bias. these are only against the two other hands that called. there was a third hand that folded. you have an overpair and a backdoor flushdraw. i doubt that you will ever hear anyone recommend that you play for your stack in this situation into three other players. i think your 36% equity is at the high end of what you should expect in these situations -- and you have very little fold equity against three players. if you don't see that you overplayed this, you will continue to get into trouble with aces.

hand 3

with aces in a multiway, yeah, you're looking for a set or an orphan pot.

IF you can get the hand HU pf with aces, AND the board is not too coordinated, then you can start thinking about playing them more aggressively on the flop. otherwise, it's just another drawing hand with weak showdown value.
