Big river bet. call or fold?

Postby kennyg » Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:01 pm

1/2 NL Prima poker
me $200
opponent $200

never seen the guy before no read.

dealt [Kh[Jh] in LP. I decide just to limp. Button calls.

FLOP$10
[Ks][7h][7c]

Both blinds and an EP limper checks. I bet $8. Button calls...everyone else folds.

TURN $26
[Ks][7h][7c][2h]

I bet $16. Button calls.

RIVER $58
[Ks][7h][7c][2h][6c]

I check. Opponent bets $44.

Quite a large bet but i think i may have induced a bluff here. I call.

Results later.....what do you guys think??

This does stink of a bluff, but it could also be a bet he thinks you are going to call, like if he had a 7. This is a call I probably dont make unless I have a solid read on this player. Though to make this call a good one you only have to be right one out of 3 and its a positive EV play.

I fold. There are too many hands that dominate KJ. AK is probably out of the picture since he limped; however, KQ is very well possible although I do not see him betting $44 into the pot. My guess is that he limped with A7 suited hoping for a flush draw and got lucky with the set...

The only hands you beat are K10 (if he would even play that on the button) or junk.

Easy fold for me...

I fold and heres why. He's only calling your flop bet with K or 7 because there are no draws out there. Turn comes and he calls again. He bets after you check on river, he must have a 7 or K in my mind and I don't see him betting K so hard. I drop my hand in an instant.

Aperfect10 you were right on the money. He held A7s for the flopped trips.

I should have had no problem folding this...knowing all the hands out there that are beating me. There was no legit draw on the flop yet this guy calls down and makes basically an overbet on the river. He wasntt afraid of my hand...obviously I wasn't afraid enough.

Hopefully I learned my lesson.
