Already ITM - how do you play this?

Postby Sunbob » Mon Sep 19, 2005 12:21 am

After 2 weeks of my tournament game being totally bad, bad, bad - I've decided I've gotten too passive and upped the aggression factor. Much better results tonight. Led the tourny most of the way and we were down to 3 so all ITM. About 15 hands before this my 2 pair got cracked by a rivered flush so I have been battling back and stolen some hands. Then this hand comes up.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (3 handed)

Hero (t3810)
Button (t6170)
SB (t5020)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [3s], [6s].
1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (t800) [Kd], [Kh], [6c] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets t800, SB calls t800.

Turn: (t2400) [Ks] (2 players)
SB checks,

Ok, what should I do? Do I go all-in with the boat, afterall - he would still have 6 outs to pair any card higher than a six? Or shut down on the chance he has the case K?

i don't go all in because then he knows you don't have the king but by my math, you have about 2600 left? I bet 1500 for more of a milking bet. Who would go all in with quads there? I'm not really saying you can fold once you bet but I think it would sell it more. If you check, are you really gonna fold the river if he goes all in no matter the card?

Listen to Brian. He's da man on these.

If he has the case K, you're screwed, but 3 handed, your pairing the board is most likely to be the winner. When I'm down to three, I'm very aggressive. Anytime I catch even a piece of the flop, I'm betting it hard. However, I like Brian's play a lot more. You have to bet here and try to get the most out of it you can. Again, 3 handed, a piece of the flop usually wins.

Sunbob,

Last week, 3 days in a row, I had my boat beaten by quads. And I was only playing 200 - 300 hands a day too. I wonder what the odds of that happening are.

In your place, with your hand, I do whatever I can to get him all in and take the chance of him having the quads. You're already ITM and once in the money you're supposed to push with any hand 50% or better right? I know, I know, that's a preflop rule, but I think a fullhouse counts just as good as that at this point in the hand. If he has the case K or a higher pocket pair then so be it. But then I suck, so what do I know.
