Best Places to Play ??

Postby bobby » Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:04 pm

Was wondering what Nash and others thought with regard to the best sites to play the low priced SNG's (1 or 2 tables)...Just curious about the % of fish vs % of rake etc
Thanks

If you find a pool, you'll find fish. Just stay away from the $5+1 tables, as 20% is too much, and the majority of players don't care about losing $5. The Crypto sites have $5+.50 tables, which is a better rake percentage, but the second warning applies.

The number of loose idiots is way down. Most tables are still at 8 at level 3 and 4, often with 5 left at big blinds. The days you can fold every hand and get 4th are over. For now.

Good luck. Fish can bite ya back.

I'm having a lot of fun at Pacific with their 5-handed tourneys...

And UB is good too, but quality of play is better than average.

YMMV, of course.
I'm unanimous in my opinion.

Definitely avoid the $5+$1 at Party and any other site that has them (Paradise comes to mind; Absolute now does $6+$1 that also are to be avoided). You should never pay more than 10% entry fee. Plenty of places offer $5+.50. Pacific even has 10% fees at lower stakes ($2+.20, $1+.10).

I've turned my best SnG profits at Absolute Poker. Not sure why exactly, but I find myself able to beat those more consistently than any I've played (Paradise, Full Tilt, UB, Stars, Prima, Party, a couple of others).

But I might change my tune here soon. I got a snail mail yesterday from Pacific, where I hadn't been in months, informing me that they put $10 into my empty account to do with as I wish. So I went there last night, won a $5+.50 SnG without breaking a sweat, finished third in a $10+$1 but only after the chip leader knocked me out with a nasty bad beat, finished second in a $20+$2 and then took myself out in fifth in another $10+$1 with a dumb move.

Anyway, all those fish that Cactus Jack and others have noticed aren't there any more wherever they're playing have apparently swum over to Pacific. The people I played against last night for the most part didn't have a clue. That first $5+.50 that I won, we were down to three-handed while the blinds were still at 15/30. Took forever to knock that out with three big stacks and such tiny blinds.

I recommend PokerStars. They have a nice tourney structure and good software. I would go ahead and play the $12+1 6-handed ones. Starting with 6 as opposed to 9 or 10 gives you the ability to play more hands and try to build a stack early, as opposed to playing super-tight early and waiting for 3 or 4 people to weed out and having the blinds be really high by the time you loosen up.
