Boring hand help...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Mon Aug 01, 2005 11:38 pm

I know this isn't the most exciting hand in the world... But, these are more the types of hands that I need help with...

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t40 (7 handed)

Button (t2120)
SB (t1530)
BB (t960)
UTG (t4475)
Hero (t2835)
MP2 (t1360)
CO (t1720)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Jc], [Tc].
UTG raises to t80, Hero calls t80, 4 folds, BB calls t40.

Normally I won't call this raise, as it's pretty easily dominated... BUT... UTG has been raising like a maniac, and BB SUCKS big time... I figure it's worth a shot...

Flop: (t260) [Jd], [4s], [8h] (3 players)
BB bets t90, UTG folds, Hero calls t90.

He weak bets... I'm pretty sure my Jack is good...

Turn: (t440) [5s] (2 players)
BB bets t130, Hero raises to t300, BB calls t170.

ANOTHER weak ass bet... might as well turn your cards over for me... He calls my raise though... HMMM....

River: (t1040) [2h] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks.

He checks the river... I should've known there he didn't have crap...

Final Pot: t1040

Results in white below:
SB doesn't show.
BB has 7h Jh (one pair, jacks).
Hero has Jc Tc (one pair, jacks).
Outcome: Hero wins t1040.

Obviously I need help here...

I think you played it fine. I dont like to put alot of chips in with one pair especially without top kicker. I like the raise on the turn as it put him on the defensive and let you check the river.

Play was fine. I even agree with checking down the river. I would have been wary of a JQ or JK, or he could have been playing an A3 for a check-raise (don't laugh, it's not any more unlikely than J7). Point is, I'm happy to with the 1000-chip win with this hand. No sense getting fancy at the end.

Only thing I do different is raise the flop just to get an idea of where I am in the hand. Otherwise I like your play.

Checking the river is fine here I think. You raise and then he checkraise you back you probably have to lay the hand down. overall, nice extraction of chips

good post...I run into similiar situations quite often....I would have raised the flop but in looking at how you played it, I might have to reconsider! Nice play in my opinion!

I agree with everyone else that I would have checked the river as well...
